'Qatar Precision Health Institute' - regions first to establish a population-based genome program

Chairperson of Qatar Foundation HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, has formally inaugurated the Qatar Precision Health Institute (QPHI), consolidating Qatar's strengths in health sciences and genomics under one roof. This initiative, which brings together the expertise of Qatar Biobank and Qatar Genome Program, aims to expedite the nation's adoption of personalized healthcare. 

The launch event attended by dignitaries including HE Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Vice Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation, encourages Qatar's pioneering role in the region. HH Sheikha Moza emphasized Qatar's status as the first country in the region to establish a population-based genome program, facilitating quicker and more accurate diagnoses for regional populations. 

Highlighting Qatar Foundation's pivotal role, Sheikha Moza commended the collaborative efforts across various national initiatives, including Sidra Medicine's advanced genome sequencing facilities and the biobank operated in partnership with Hamad Medical Corporation and the Ministry of Health. Additionally, the College of Islamic Studies at Hamad Bin Khalifa University was acknowledged for its contributions to ethical dialogue in genomics and precision medicine. 

The QPHI builds upon the achievements of Qatar Biobank and Qatar Genome program over the past decade, aiming to translate research findings into clinical applications, Minister of Public Health, Dr. Hanan Mohammed Al Kuwari, lauded the institute's vision of leveraging science and innovation to enhance population health. 

Dr. Victor Dzau, Chairperson of the International Scientific Advisory Committee, QPHI, hailed the institute as a significant milestone in advancing healthcare, shifting focus from disease management to practice health improvement through precision medicine. 

Dr. Said Ismail, Acting President of QPHI, expressed optimism about the institute's role in elevating healthcare standards in Qatar and establishing the nation as a leader in precision medicine globally. 

Through recruitment of Qataro participants and comprehensive data analysis, QPHI aims to make critical health research accessible to researchers worldwide while providing personalized healthcare solutions locally.
