Qatar ranked world’s safest country for fifth year in a row
Qatar continued to add more feathers to its cap as the nation was voted as the ‘world’s safest country’ for the fifth year in a row, as per the latest Numbeo Crime Index by Country 2023 report.
Crime rates in Qatar have traditionally been among the lowest in the world and the latest report reinforces this fact even further.
Qatar topped the index in 2017 before losing the title to Japan in 2018. They regained the top spot in 2019 and have not looked back since then.
According to the latest rankings, Qatar’s crime index is 14.8 while its safety index stands at 85.2. Three other GCC countries also made it to the top 10, including UAE (Rank 2), Oman (5) and Bahrain (10).
Taiwan (3), the Isle of Man (4), Hong Kong (6), Armenia (7), Japan (8) and Switzerland (9) are the other nations in the top-10, from among the 142 countries surveyed.
Meanwhile, the ‘Numbeo Crime Index by City’ placed Doha as the second safest, behind Abu Dhabi. The Qatari capital scored 14.5 on the crime index and 85.5 on the safety index to finish ahead of Taipei (Taiwan), Ajman, Sharjah (both UAE), Quebec (Canada), Dubai (UAE), San Sebastian (Spain) and Eskisehir (Turkiye).
Qatar’s perception as the world’s safest country had received a huge boost recently with the successful organisation of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. People from around the world had hailed it as the best and safest tournament in World Cup history, recording no major crimes.
Last year, the Global Peace Index ranked Qatar as the most peaceful country in the Middle East and North Africa region. Out of 163 countries, Qatar ranked the 23rd most peaceful country in the world.
Qatar achieved a new global distinction at the level of the security situation, according to the Global Peace Index (GPI) 2022. Qatar ranked first in the Middle East and North Africa region and 23rd in the world out of 163 countries included in the report.#MOIQatar pic.twitter.com/zS10L7UOJQ
