The Global Peace Index report, released on 14 June 2022 by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) in Australia, is based on three main criteria: the level of safety and security in society, the extent of domestic and international conflict, and the degree of militarization. There are additional criteria related to a country's internal and external affairs. Qatar maintained its high ranking in the report's security indicators, which included criminality in society, terrorist activity, homicides, safety and security, organized internal conflicts, terrorism, and political stability.
Qatar has maintained its lead in the Middle East and North Africa over the past years (2019-2022), as well as advanced positions at the global level, by achieving high ratings that outperformed many developed countries during the same period.
According to the report, Qatar's top position in the Global Peace Index in the Middle East and North Africa, as well as its advanced global rankings, confirms the State of Qatar's high level of security and safety, a low crime rate, and political stability, in addition to being free of terrorist activities and threats, both internally and externally.

According to the report, Qatar is the most peaceful country in the MENA region for the 15th consecutive year and the only MENA country to be among the top 25 most peaceful countries in the world. In 2022, Qatar only deteriorated in three of the 23 GPI indicators: refugees and IDPs, criminal perceptions, and weapons exports. The country's perception of criminality has deteriorated, but the overall level of crime in 2022 remains low. In the previous year, twelve indicators remained unchanged, while eight improved.
The greatest improvement occurred in the indicator of political instability, which improved by 28.6 percent, the second largest improvement of any nation worldwide.
The GPI also placed Qatar first in the Arab world and ninth overall in its index of the safest nations, up six global points from the year before. This placed Qatar among the top ten safest nations in the world, outperforming many others like Austria, Sweden, South Korea, the Netherlands, Ireland, New Zealand, Taiwan, and others.
The Global Peace Index 2022 ranked Qatar as the first in Arab states, and 9th in the world, in the indicator of the Safest and Most Societal Peaceful Countries, advancing by six places over the previous year, making Qatar one of the ten safest countries in the world.#MOIQatar pic.twitter.com/NiGwc0ghkB
