Qatar, which is one of the safest countries in the world, recently retained its second spot as one of the least corrupt in the entire Arab world.

According to Transparency International’s 2022 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), Qatar scored 58 points out of a possible 100 to rank as the 40th least corrupt nation in the world. It also maintained its position as the second least corrupt Arab nation on the index behind the UAE (Rank 27, 67 points).

Saudi Arabia (54, 51pts) came in third among other GCC nations, followed by Bahrain (69, 44pts), Oman (69, 44pts) and Kuwait (77, 42pts).

According to the report, a country’s score is the perceived level of public sector corruption on a scale of 0 to 100, where 0 means highly corrupt and 100 means very clean. The country’s rank is its position relative to the other countries in the Index. Hence the rank can change if more countries are added into the index in the future.

War torn countries like Libya (17), Yemen (16) and Syria (13) were among the most corrupt Arab countries.

Qatar had recently been ranked as the world’s ‘safest country’ for the fifth year in a row by the Numbeo Crime Index.

Last year, the Global Peace Index had ranked the country as the most peaceful in the Middle East and North Africa region. Out of 163 countries, Qatar ranked the 23rd most peaceful country in the world.

Last month, Doha had been chosen as the 27th Best City in the world to live, work, visit and invest in by Resonance Consultancy — a leading global advisor on placemaking, branding and marketing for the world’s best cities and destinations.
