Qatar to resume airbridge for humanitarian aid to Sudan from Wednesday
Qatar, in an attempt to send aid to war-torn Sudan, had initiated an airbridge which delivered tonnes of supplies and medicines to different parts of the country.
After a brief pause, Qatar will restart the airbridge today, confirmed Dr Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari, Advisor to the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He said the 12th plane — carrying various relief materials to help Sudanese people overcome the present ordeal — will take off from Doha to Port Sudan today.
Dr Al Ansari also spoke about Qatar’s $100m aid to Ukraine during the media briefing organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“We’ve pledged $100m for humanitarian assistance, rehabilitation of health and education infrastructure and provision of potable water. We’ve also arranged 50 university scholarships for Ukrainian students to study in Qatar. We’ve contributed another $20m to support the Ukrainian grain export initiative,” he said.
Dr Al Ansari said Qatari officials had taken part in the Extraordinary Meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which was convened on Monday via video conferencing.
The meeting discussed the recurrent incidences of desecrating and burning of the Holy Quran in Sweden and Denmark.
He said Qatar strongly condemned the attack that targeted the Jalle Siyad military academy in Mogadishu, Somalia, which resulted in the killing and injuring of several people.
Expressing concern about current developments in Niger, Qatar called on all parties to avoid escalation, give priority to the voice of wisdom, and pursue dialogue to overcome the crisis.
Qatar also denounced in the strongest terms the explosion that happened in Bajaur District, Pakistan, which resulted in several deaths and injuries.
