Qatar the safest country in the world after Andorra, UAE
Qatar has always prided itself to be a largely crime-free nation, with people from all walks of like safely and happily co-existing together.
If one needed statistical proof for the same, then Numbeo — a crowd-sourced online database widely used by global news agencies — has provided just that.
Numbeo has ranked Qatar (84 points) as the third-safest country in the world — behind Andorra (87.1) and the UAE (84.4) — in its Safety Index By Country 2024 list.
Numbeo’s Safety Index considered several factors — including crime levels (9.29, very low), safety while walking alone (87.08 during day and 81.89 at night, both very high), incidence of stolen vehicles (7.73, very low) and property crimes (14.02, very low) — before reaching the conclusion.
Qatar achieved impressively low scores in crime rates, concerns about home break-ins (11.62, very low), car theft (13.24, very low), physical attacks due to ethnicity etc (16.39, very low), and drug-related offenses (14.50, very low).
Reflecting on the impact of safety on tourism, Qatar Tourism reported over four million visitors in 2023, setting a new record. The ‘Tourism Sector Performance Q1 2024’ report showed a 40% increase in arrivals compared to the first quarter of 2023, amounting to 1.6 million visitors.
In April 2024, the National Planning Council recorded approximately 382,000 inbound visitors, marking a 17.9% annual increase compared to April 2023.
With plans to expand business and tourism while enhancing life quality, safety remains a cornerstone of Qatar's strategy to improve living standards and economic performance.
