Qatar sees robust 31% growth in number of air passengers in April
Ever since hosting the Middle East region’s first FIFA World Cup last year, Qatar has been in the spotlight as one of the most tourist-friendly nations on earth. Sure enough, there has been a steady increase in the number of people visiting the country.
The latest Air Transport Statistics released by the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA) show there was a 31% increase year-on-year in the number of visitors to Qatar in April.

According to QCAA, Qatar registered a total of 3,281,487 air passengers in April, compared to 2,505,025 logged during the same period last year.
It also noted that aircraft movement in the country recorded a year-on-year increase of 14.3% in April, totalling 18,762 flights. It had been 16,411 flights during the same month last year.
However, cargo and mail movement showed a decline of 8.3%, from 203,261 tonnes in April 2022 to 186,302 tonnes last month.
Visitors from GCC countries contributed significantly to the growth in tourist arrivals in Qatar in April. GCC countries made up 38% of total arrivals (164,410 people) in April 2023. It had been just 21,900 passengers in April 2022, hence showing a surge of 207.4%.
The number of passengers registered in February and March this year had been the highest ever recorded for these two months since the start of operations of both Hamad and Doha International Airports.
Qatar welcomed a total of 730,000 visitors in January and February 2023, marking an increase of 347% from the previous year.
The number of passengers in March also showed a 25% increase compared to the same time in 2022.
Qatar Tourism has put an ambitious plan to attract six million visitors to Qatar every year by 2030, and raise tourism sector’s contribution to the country’s GDP to 12% by the end of the decade.
The country has come up with many exciting programmes to turn the dream into reality.
Qatar Tourism organised numerous family-friendly events including several musical performances, shows and exhibitions under the banner of ‘Feel Winter in Qatar.’
And the ‘Feel Eid in Qatar’ campaign also attracted thousands of people.
Doha, which was chosen as the Arab Tourism Capital of the year, had also hosted several world-class sporting events including the Visit Qatar GKA Freestyle Kite World Cup 2023, Qatar TotalEnergies Open and the Qatar ExxonMobil Open tennis tournaments.
Coming to world-class facilities, the Hamad International Airport was recently in the news when it was chosen as the Middle East’s Best Airport by Skytrax for the ninth year in a row.
