Qatar strongly condemns Israeli minister’s threat to use nuclear bomb in Gaza
Qatar has strongly condemned the hateful statements made by Israel’s Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu, who said ‘dropping a nuclear bomb on the Gaza Strip was one of the possibilities.’
Eliyahu, a member of the ultra-nationalist Otzma Yehudit party, had on Sunday claimed in a radio interview that “since there were no non-combatants in Gaza, using an atomic weapon on the Palestinian enclave was one of the possibilities.’
In a strongly-worded statement, Qatar said it considered the Israeli minister’s words a serious incitement to a war crime and disregard for human and moral values and international laws.
“Eliyahu’s statements are not based in reality,” said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on X, after indefinitely suspending the Heritage Minister.
However, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs pointed out the leniency of the occupation government to the minister’s threats by merely suspending his membership.
The Ministry said Eliyahu’s hateful and provocative statements represented an extension of the escalatory policy adopted by the Israeli government in the occupied Palestinian territories.
It also stressed the need for the international community to act urgently to protect Palestinians trapped in the Gaza Strip.
The Ministry also renewed Qatar’s firm stance on the justice of the Palestinian cause, the legitimate rights of the brotherly Palestinian people, and the establishment of their independent state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
