Qatar’s Minister of Interior and Chairman of the General Referendum Committee, HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, announced that 84% of the country’s eligible voters had participated in the constitutional amendment vote.

While 89% of voters approved the amendments, 9.2% disapproved, and 1.8% of the votes were null and void. The new constitutional amendments were hence approved by 90.6% popular vote.

The General Referendum Committee, headed by Sheikh Khalifa, extended its sincere thanks to the country’s wise leadership and the Qatari people for their enthusiastic participation in the referendum.

Meanwhile, the Amiri Diwan announced an official two-day holiday on November 6 and 7, with employees resuming their work on Sunday, November 10.

The holiday was declared in celebration of the national unity demonstration witnessed in Qatar during the general referendum.

The official holidays will also include employees and students of public and private schools, announced the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.

The Qatar Central Bank also announced a two-day holiday for banks.

“Based on The Amiri Diwan announcement, it has been decided that Wednesday and Thursday will be official holidays for all employees of financial institutions in the country. All financial institutions will reopen their doors to the public on Sunday, November 10,” it announced.

Meanwhile, Qatar’s Ministry of Interior also announced the official working hours for its services during the public holidays. The ministry said its security and traffic investigation departments would work 24 hours as usual.

However, service oriented departments like those for passports, traffic, nationality and travel documents, criminal evidence, and information (fingerprint) will be functional from 8am to 12pm.
