Qatari animated web series to launch on the first day of Eid al-Fitr
To promote the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and showcase Qatari culture, a group of young Qataris have created an entertaining cartoon series called "Kawkabani".
The series was produced by Nefaish Animation Studio in partnership with the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC), Doha Film Institute (DFI), and Vodafone Qatar.
The first season consists of five 11-minute episodes written by Amal Al Shamari, directed by Hossein Heydar, and produced by Nefaish Animation, a renowned animation company that specializes in creating high-quality animation inspired by Qatari culture.
It is expected that the first episode will air on the first day of Eid al-Fitr, and subsequent episodes will be released weekly on YouTube.

The story revolves around an alien named Kawkabani, who has never missed the World Cup before. Kawkabani crashed his spaceship in the middle of the desert during a journey to Qatar two years before the event and he is found by three guys, who decide to host him until the event.
“The series shows the culture, traditions, and lifestyle of the Qatari community, through the eyes of an Alien who asks most of the questions that run through the mind of any visitor. The show also aims to introduce Qatar as a tourist destination, and most importantly, it will also provide opportunities for Qatari talents to showcase their creativity,” said Amal Al Shamari, series writer.
“Animation is the global language that can target everyone, and this show aims to promote Qatari culture and values to a global audience. Thanks to our sponsors, who believed in the capabilities of the Qatari companies and their ability to produce world-class quality from Qatar to the rest of the world and invested in building local talents,” said Hossein Heydar, series director.
The main characters include Kawkabani, a 220 space years old alien who loves football; Faisal, a 20 year old social media star; Khalifa, a 19 year old who dreams to be the Qatari Steve Jobs; and Saad, a 19 year old who wishes to be a businessman.
“The project is a combination of the huge efforts of local talent in writing, animation, and production, and the final product is an integrated piece of work that competes on a global scale. This web series will put Qatar on the animation production map,” said Nefaish Animation.
