The joint rescue mission was launched immediately after receiving information about the incident from the crew of the cargo ship.
An intense search in the immediate vicinity of the ship, as well as surrounding areas, ensued. Multiple helicopters and specialized marine vessels were used in the rescue operations.
Once the missing person was found in the water, he was saved and transported directly to Hamad Hospital for necessary first aid.
Meanwhile, the Embassy of South Korea in Qatar expressed its deepest gratitude to the country for its full and expeditious assistance in the search and rescue mission.
South Korean Ambassador to Qatar Lee Joon-ho conveyed his gratitude to the concerned authorities for taking swift and intensive action.
Ambassador Lee visited the Korean national at Hamad Hospital and wished him a speedy recovery, assuring him the Embassy would provide all necessary support until he returns to South Korea.
“The prompt and full support of the government of Qatar resulting in the successful rescue of the Korean national showed the depth of the long-standing friendly relations which Korea and Qatar have forged over the past 50 years. Our strong friendship will deepen and strengthen to a greater level in the years ahead,” the ambassador was quoted as saying.
