Qatar’s Assistant Foreign Minister meets Canadian Assistant Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs
As Qatar and Canada look to further strengthen bilateral ties, Her Excellency Qatar’s Assistant Foreign Minister and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater met with the Canadian Assistant Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Sandra McCardell yesterday.
The meeting between the two ministers took place via videoconferencing. The Ambassador of Canada to Qatar Stefanie McCollum also attended the session.
The meeting focused on cementing Qatar-Canada cooperation and highlighted the successes of their joint work.
The two ministers also exchanged views on the political situation in the region, in particular the Palestinian issue. They stressed the importance of stability in the region and its importance to the world.

The Afghan negotiations that are taking place in Doha were also a point of discussion during the session. While hoping for success, the Canadian side praised Qatar’s role in this regard.
Additionally, the ministers spoke about Qatar’s and Canada’s efforts in the domain of combating climate change.
HE Al Khater noted the efforts of Qatar Fund For Development (QFFD) in this regard, and Qatar's contribution of $100 million which was announced by HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani in 2019 to support the island and small states to deal with climate change.
McCardell underscored Canada's eagerness for the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar, and the possibility of benefiting from Qatar’s experience in this area as Canada, the United States of America and Mexico will host the World Cup in 2026.
After the session, the two parties reiterated the importance of promoting the investment and economic sector between Qatar and Canada, particularly with Qatar’s plans for economic diversification and attracting foreign investment.
