Qatar's flexi work hours to benefit Qatari mothers and disabled employees
The Civil Service and Government Development Bureau (CGB) has announced that Qatar's Council of Ministries has approved the implementation of flexible work and remote work systems in government agencies, starting on September 9, 2024. The new system aims to support employees in balancing their professional and family responsibilities, particularly benefiting working mothers and individuals with disabilities.
Under the new guidelines, employees can work flexible hours while ensuring they meet the required number of official hours. The system will not compromise government operations and aligns with the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Third National Development Strategy.
Key features include a standard seven hour workday with flexible start times between 6.30 AM and 8.30 AM. special provisions will be made for employees with disabilities, medical needs, and nursing mothers. Remote work will also be an option, with up to 30% of staff in administrative units eligible for one week of remote work annually, while Qatari mothers with children under 12 may work remotely for one month per year. However, employees working in shift-based roles or those whose job requirements conflicts with the new system are exempt from the policy.
