Qatar’s Mutaz Barshim wins third title at WCH 2022
Qatar’s high jump legend, Mutaz Essa Barshim won his third consecutive world high jump title at the ongoing World Athletics Championship (WCH) 2022 held in Eugene, Oregon. The athlete aced the 2.37 meters right after he had cleared the 2.35-meter mark, beating all his rivals with much ease. He won the final title as his South Korean rival Sanghyeok Woo attempted to best his record and failed.
Qatar Olympic Committee and Qatar Athletics Federation shared multiple tweets congratulating Barshim on his victory. According to World Athletics, Mutaz Barshim is the first man in history to claim three world high jump titles.

This is Barshim’s third time in a row winning the gold at the WCH. Last year, he shared an Olympic gold medal with Italian rival Gianmarco Tamberi, after attempting to clear his own season’s best record of 2.30 meters.
The ace high jumper also attempted to beat the championship record of 2.42 meters, which was set by Javier Sotomayor in 1993, but couldn’t do it. Staying short of the world record, he is still the highest jumper with his record of 2.37m along with the gold title to his name.
Mutaz Barshim is certainly a legend with three golds to his name, something that has never been achieved before by any man in high jump championships. Additionally, he is also a proud winner of two Olympic silvers and a world silver too.
