Qatar’s Prime Minister inaugurates 32nd Doha International Book Fair
Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani officially opened the 32nd edition of the Doha International Book Fair (DIBF) at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre on Monday.
The exhibition, being held under the patronage of HH The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, features around 505 publishers from 37 nations. The DIBF, which runs under the slogan ‘With Reading We Rise’ this year, has Saudi Arabia as its guest of honour.
Saudi Arabia is operating a special pavilion at DIBF 2023, featuring a wide variety of books as well as contributions by poets about different aspects of the country’s rich culture.

Sheikh Mohamed, who toured the exhibition, was briefed about the work of various Qatari, Arab and foreign publishing houses. He saw the latest publications and books of various governmental agencies, Arab and international cultural institutions and embassies accredited to Qatar.
The top official also visited the Children’s Oasis and was given a briefing about its planned cultural activities, including seminars and lectures.

DIBF 2023, which will continue until June 21, is the largest such exhibition to date. It features around 180,000 titles and 750,000 books in all.
The fair will host 37 cultural, scientific, literary and social seminars and poetry evenings. The Cultural Salon will feature 116 events including seminars, cultural sessions and the launch of new books. A total of 48 workshops are also being planned on the sidelines of the exhibition.

While Al Mutanabbi Street will host six bookstores from Baghdad, 28 male and female chefs will be a part of a live cooking initiative. There will be 17 discussion sessions and 64 seminars and lectures in all at DIBF 2023.
Numerous Qatari ministries and state institutions are also taking part in DIBF 2023. The pavilion by Qatar’s Ministry of Culture is one of the most impressive. It features various publications, Qatari dress shops, musical instruments and artefacts.
The book fair, which runs until June 21, is free to access for all. It will be open from 9 am to 10 pm from Saturday to Thursday and from 3 pm to 10 pm on Friday.
