Up to QR3,000 Fine for Smoking in Prohibited Areas
The Ministry of Interior (MOI) has issued a reminder to the public that smoking is strictly prohibited in metro vehicles and stations, as well as in all forms of public transportation.
Violators can face fines ranging from QR1,000 to QR3,000.
In a recent video message on its social media channels, the MOI emphasized the importance of adhering to Article 17 of Law No. 10 of 2016 on tobacco control, which bans smoking in enclosed spaces to ensure public safety.
Qatar is one of the few countries where tobacco smoke pollution is virtually non-existent, as there is no tobacco cultivation or manufacturing within the country. Strict regulations are in place to ban smoking in indoor spaces and to prevent the sale of tobacco products to individuals under 18 years of age. Additionally, the sale of tobacco products is prohibited within 1 km of schools and other educational and training institutions.
Qatar also offers extensive support to help smokers quit through the HMC’s Tobacco Control Center, a WHO Collaborating Center, providing all necessary resources to combat this harmful habit.
