Second electric vehicle fast-charging station at government offices inaugurated
Acknowledging the growing popularity of electric vehicles in Qatar, officials have launched a second electric vehicle fast charging station in the country.
The Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), along with the country’s General Traffic Department, inaugurated the fast charging station at the traffic headquarters in Madinat Khalifa on Monday.
The inauguration of the fast-charging station with 100-kilowatt capacity — capable of charging two vehicles simultaneously in less than 20 minutes — came as the result of a partnership between the Ministry of Interior (MoI) and Kahramaa.

The two entities will collaborate in installing a collection of stations in different areas of the MoI in order to further advance environmental sustainability.
The first such charging station had been inaugurated at the Al Fazaa building.
Kahramaa’s Director of Shared Services Dr Eng Abdulla Mohsin Al Wahedi emphasised the importance of their partnership with MoI.
“The partnership is helping support the country’s transition to sustainable transport. Placing the charging station at the General Traffic Department, the regulatory heartbeat of vehicular movement in Qatar, resonates profoundly with the transition,” he said.
“Kahramaa is committed to providing essential infrastructure to support electric vehicles by deploying high-speed chargers at strategic locations nationwide until all areas are covered by high-speed chargers,” he added.

“I strongly advocate for other ministries and governmental agencies to integrate electric vehicle charging infrastructure. It’ll amplify the support for electric vehicle utilization and contribute to a reduction in harmful carbon emissions,” said Kahramaa’s Manager of Conservation and Energy Efficiency Department Rashid Hussain Al Rahimi.
Kahramaa, through the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed), remains at the forefront of augmenting the electric vehicle charger network.
Earlier this year, Kahramaa had announced the inauguration of a platform to control and monitor the network of EV charging stations in the country. By launching over 160 swift chargers, the corporation is steadfast in its mission to commission 300 units by the close of 2024, with an ambitious target of 600 units by 2025.
