Officials have cordoned off the area and rescue efforts are underway. A resident of the area confirmed the incident.
“A part of the structure collapsed onto a structure right beside it. The whole area has been cordoned off and no one is allowed to enter the buildings,” he was quoted as saying by the newspaper.
Another resident, who did not wish to be named, said the collapse occurred at around 8:18am. “The building has many Pakistani, Egyptian and Filipino families in it,” said the witness.
Both of them said frequent repair works had been ongoing in the now-collapsed building.
