Souq Waqif’s Honey and Dates Festival to run until March 14

The fifth edition of the Souq Waqif Exhibition for Honey and Dates has proven to be a mammoth success, with people from different nationalities and ages flowing to the Al Ahmad Square.

The public demand for the exhibition has been so strong that organisers have decided to extend the event by three days — until Tuesday, March 14.

Festival Supervisor Khalid Al Suwaidi said the extension was made owing to public demand.

“The festival was originally supposed to end on Saturday. But the public wanted more time to shop for honey and dates. So after talking to the management and exhibitors, we came to a decision to extend the festival by three days,” he was quoted as saying.

More than 160 exhibitors from 25 countries are participating in the festival. The public can choose from over 60 kinds of honey, and five kinds of dates.

Al Suwaidi said the event was a huge success.

“We’ve already surpassed our target of 23,000 visitors for the festival. The sales have been quite remarkable too. Exhibitors from Saudi Arabia finished all their products within the second day. As for honey companies, everything’s sold out and they’re replenishing their stock,” he said.
