Starlink to provide internet connectivity to internationally recognized Gaza aid groups, says Elon Musk
The ability of Palestinians to communicate with one another came to a grinding halt in the Gaza Strip on Friday after most internet telecommunications infrastructure was destroyed by consistent Israeli bombings.
However, Starlink — a satellite network created by Space X to offer affordable internet access to isolated areas — will support connectivity to internationally recognized Gaza aid groups, said Space X owner Elon Musk, who also owns X.
His intervention comes after the pathetic situation on the ground, which saw internet connectivity being completely cut off across the Gaza Strip on Friday amid intense Israeli bombardment.
The situation was questioned by US representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, widely known as AOC, on X.
“Cutting off all communication to a population of 2.2 million is unacceptable. Journalists, medical professionals, humanitarian efforts, and innocents are all endangered. I do not know how such an act can be defended. The United States has historically denounced this practice,” AOC wrote on X.

Responding to her, Musk said, “Starlink will support connectivity to internationally recognized aid organizations in Gaza.”
The Palestinian Red Crescent Society had earlier tweeted about the grim situation on the ground after internet access was cut.
“The interruption impacts the primary emergency number 101 and obstructs the prompt arrival of ambulances to assist the injured. We have completely lost contact with the operations room in the Gaza Strip and all our teams operating there,” it wrote on X.
Speaking about the communication cut-off, Palestinian telecoms provider Jawwal wrote on Facebook, “The heavy bombardment in the last hour destroyed all remaining international routes connecting Gaza to the outside world.”
