Thousands turn up for the first Eid al-Fitr prayer at Education City Stadium on Friday

It was a sight to behold on Friday morning when thousands of worshipers gathered together to offer Eid al-Fitr prayer at the Education City Stadium, which was custom-built for FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
The prayer, hosted by the Minaretein Center, or the Education City Mosque, was the first-ever to be held inside the stadium, which hosted eight FIFA World Cup matches last year.
It was one of the largest prayer venues among the 590 mosques and prayer grounds arranged by Awqaf.
Qatar Foundation, which houses the Education City Stadium, thanked everyone who were a part of the prayer.
“We are grateful to everyone who joined us for the Eid al-Fitr prayer and festival at the Education City Stadium to celebrate the joyous occasion of Eid,” QF tweeted.

The prayer was followed by an Eid Festival, which had fun activities for men and women of all ages, and especially children.
The Eid Festival featured various attractions including kids’ bouncing castles, basketball hoops, giant Jenga, food carts, air hockey, corn hole throw, face painting, sports inflatables, mini soccer, mini golf, giant tic-tac-toe, and sub soccer.
Some of the worshippers said they came to the venue considering its significance and convenience.
“Eid is an opportunity for us to come together as a community and celebrate our blessings. It gives us a good feel to gather at the Education City Stadium once again. We liked the place during the World Cup and it’s very easy to access,” Nasim, who performed prayers with his family, was quoted as saying.
For Mawaza Nilam, it was her first visit to the stadium.
“I felt blessed and excited to join Eid prayer with such a big crowed at this amazing stadium. This is my first time and all together, it was a great experience,” she said, adding the parking and transport at the stadium had been well organised.
While the Education City Tram was in operation for visitors, parking was made available at three locations — West Car Park, Al Shaqab and Oxygen Park.
