Two Qatari students win Best Innovator award at UAE’s Future Science Challenge
Two Qatari students did the nation proud when they bagged the ‘Best Innovator’ award in the junior category of the Future Science Challenge competition for gifted students in the UAE on Monday.
Sara Al Dosary and Meera Al Kaabi, who are members of the Qatar Scientific Club, won the recognition for their ‘step towards safety’ project.
Their project spoke about smart shoes, fitted with sensors and GPS, which measure heartbeat and temperature and send it as text messages to parents while their children wear them.
The project also included a phone application for caregivers to track those wearing the shoes. The project’s initial and final models were implemented at the Qatar Scientific Club’s workshops and laboratories, under the supervision of the Club’s engineers.
Qatar Scientific Club’s Deputy Executive Director Abdul Rahman Saleh Khamis said they relentlessly supported students with their innovative projects. He said they also held annual competitions to unearth junior science talents and nurture them.
“The Qatar Scientific Club helps gifted students implement their projects through well-equipped technical laboratories. We help build their project prototypes to the highest standards with the help of specialised engineers,” said Khamis.
He congratulated the students for their achievements and hailed their families for constantly supporting them.
Meanwhile, Qatari schools also won two other places in the second round of the Future Science Challenge competition.
Students from Qatar Science and Technology Secondary School for Boys won the future science challenge champion award for professional category. Students from Qatar Technical Secondary School for Boys won the best designer position in the professional category.
