VCUarts Qatar displays four exhibitions till February 17

Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar (VCUarts Qatar)—a partner university of Qatar Foundation (QF)—is currently displaying four art exhibitions at their campus until February 17. The four themes include: a tribute to a grandfather’s life, the conversion of embroidery into music, the outcomes of marrying design with technology, and recreating an office through artwork.
All these four exhibitions are created by the students and faculty, and are on display at specific locations within the campus building. External visitors are allowed to take a tour of the same during the university’s work hours by booking tickets with Eventbrite.
Rasha Alkasab’s ‘My Grandfather’s Journey’ is located at Project Spaces, Library, ground floor. The exhibit is a tribute to her late grandfather Nizar Darwish Alajani and speaks of her memories with him, while touching on the theme of home.
“The Sound of Thread: Extending traditions through the sonification of Palestinian embroidery” is on display at Project Space Glass Display, first floor. Curated by senior graphic design student, Naima Almajdobah, the exhibit allows you to hear what you see and see what you hear through patterned thread and audio files.
Michael Perrone, Assistant Professor, Painting and Printmaking, has displayed “Office Hours” at the Project Space Glass Display, ground floor. The exhibit is a recreation of his own office that is reminiscent of the 16th-century‘ cabinets of curiosity’.
The fourth exhibition is called ‘Computational Potential’ by xLab and is located at Project Space, Saffron Hall, ground floor. The exhibit showcases ideas and forms of creating art and design through code.
Visiting hours are from Saturday to Thursday between 9 am–4 pm at the VCUarts Qatar campus, Education City.
