Web Summit Qatar shines through with innovations, insights and calls for action
As the inaugural edition of Web Summit Qatar kicked off, it brought together 15,453 attendees from 118 countries, marking a sold-out event that surpassed expectations. With 1043 startups, 401 investors, and 380 speakers, the summit promises a vibrant platform for collaboration and innovation.
Founder & CEO of Koniku, Osh. Agabi, unveiled the groundbreaking "Smell Cyborg" Konikore, ushering in a new era of sensory technology with its ability to detect odours. This innovative creation represents a significant leap towards artificial general intelligence, showcasing the transformative potential of varied research.
The next key highlight was when Hassan Al-Thawadi, the Secretary General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, reflected on Qatar's journey in hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup, emphasizing the nation's long-term vision before the event. "As a nation, Qatar always understood the transformative power of sporting events" he remarked, emphasizing the strategic development initiatives undertaken to ensure a lasting legacy for Qatar and the region.
To conclude the events for the day, in a heartfelt address by HRH Queen Rania of Jordan, shed light on the role of digital technologies in shaping perceptions and narratives. Drawing attention to the sad state of the Palestinian people, she called for global attention and action to end the ongoing conflict, urging for a ceasefire and an end to the suffering in the region. "We must insist on a world where peace, dignity and freedom are inevitable. For you, for us, for the people of Palestine. Because their story is part of our story. And in showing up for them, we are showing up for ourselves." she concluded.
As the first day of Web Summit Qatar ended, the stage was set for further discussions, collaborations, and insights, reaffirming the summit's commitment to driving positive change through technology and innovation.
