Will we see a flying taxi in Qatar by 2025?
If plans by Qatar’s Ministry of Transport (MoT) work out well, Qatar may soon get to witness a scene that may seem straight out of a science fiction movie.
The MoT, in an attempt to further develop and operate an integrated mobility ecosystem in the country, has announced plans to test out an electric air taxi and electric delivery planes by early 2025.
The Ministry has applied for necessary approvals from different Qatari governmental bodies to do test runs for the same.
If successful, these tests will herald a new era of air mobility, significantly bolstering the performance of Qatar's transportation sector and promising a more efficient and sustainable future.
The air taxis will use the latest global technologies and artificial intelligence (AI), thereby enhancing the public transit system’s integration, coherence, sustainability, and eco-friendliness.
This initiative is a testament to Qatar's commitment to the Third Qatar National Development Strategy (NDS3), which prioritizes the utilization of advanced technologies for sustainable development and economic diversification. It further cements Qatar's position as a global leader in transportation, aligning with the pillars of the Qatar National Vision 2030.
