WISE 11 – Unveiling a new era of educational transformation

November 28, 2023, the World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) commenced its highly anticipated 11th edition, WISE 11, at the Qatar National Convention Centre. Founded in 2009 under the visionary leadership of Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, WISE has solidified its standing as a global platform fostering innovation and evidence-based approaches in education.
Under the theme ‘Creative Fluency: Human Flourishing in the Age of AI,’ WISE 11 gathered over 100 luminaries from diverse backgrounds, including educators, tech experts, government officials, and renowned personalities. This summit marks a pivotal moment in the global discourse on educational paradigms, emphasizing the imperative of adapting to the evolving landscape.
The summit, emceed by Al Jazeera presenter Rawaa Auge, commenced with keynote addresses from Aidan White, President and founder of the Ethical Journalism Network, and Nina Schick, Founder of Tamang Ventures Limited, setting the stage for insightful discussions on AI's impact on education.
Her Highness Sheikha Moza highlighted the summit's significance, stating, “There is no alternative but to innovate if we are to find solutions to intractable problems, addressing obstacles in education worldwide.”
In a momentous announcement, Her Excellency Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Vice Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation, awarded the prestigious WISE Prize for Education to Safeena Husain, Founder of Educate Girls. She is recognized for her 16-year dedication to empowering girls' education in India's most challenging regions. In a conversation with Safeena Hussain on integrating computer literacy into the traditional curriculum, she stated, "It is incredibly important as these are the skills of the future. I work with girls and the digital gender divide is massive and we have to bridge this gap so our women and girls are also at the forefront of digital technology.” She further stated that “while computer literacy is critical and essential but at the same time, we need to tackle patriarchy these girls face and create the support network for women and girls is absolutely at the forefront.”
Throughout the summit, three thematic zones hosted diverse sessions, including panels, masterclasses, and policy roundtables, delving into critical educational subjects.
The opening plenary also featured a stirring performance by 15-year-old Palestinian rapper Abdulrahman AlShanti, known as MC Abdul, adding a poignant touch to the summit's inauguration.
WISE 11 reinforces its commitment to driving educational innovation and global transformation, solidifying its position as a motivator for redefining education in the age of rapid technological advancement.
