World Arabian Horse Championship 2023 thrills spectators at Old Doha Port
The World Arabian Horse Championship 2023, featuring some of the best Arabian horses from around the planet, got off to a rousing start at the Old Doha Port on Thursday.
The prestigious event, featuring 150 horses from 20 different countries, is coming to Qatar for the first time in its 42 years of existence.

The annual competition has always occurred in France, with it travelling outside for the first time this year.
Horses from Austria, Belgium, Brazil, China, Germany, Italy, Jordan, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Morocco, Poland, Qatar, Romania, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, and Uruguay are taking part in the international event.
Prof. Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, General Manager of the Cultural Village Foundation - Katara, called the competition a ‘transformative milestone in the world of equestrianism.’ He hailed the celebration of the Arabian horse as a cultural icon, symbolizing a profound connection to Arab heritage.

“On this extraordinary occasion of the World Arabian Horse Championship, celebrating Arabian horses as an integral part of Arab culture, this event marks a pivotal advancement in equestrian sport, relocating to Doha after a prestigious 42-year tenure in France,” he was quoted as saying by The Peninsula.
The competition’s opening day featured contests for Yearling Fillies, Junior Fillies, and Senior Mares. More intense showdowns are expected in the categories for Yearling Colts, Junior Colts and Senior Stallions, culminating in a grand closing ceremony.
The event will also honor the Best Breeder/Horse Owner, Best Sire, and Stallions Platinum Championship.
The competition will conclude on December 9.
