President Borut Pahor received on Qatari Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Ghaith bin Mubarak Al Kuwari on the eve of the laying of a foundation stone in Ljubljana for the first mosque in Slovenia on Friday. Qatar is the biggest donor for the mosque, which is expected to cost EUR 21m.
*************************************************
The president's office said in a press release that Pahor had always supported the construction of the mosque and Islamic centre in Ljubljana.

Pahor and Al Kuwari, who was accompanied by the head of the Muslim community in Slovenia, Mufti Nedžad Grabus, also called for further strengthening of cooperation between Slovenia and Qatar in economy, politics, culture and other areas.

Al Kuwari said he was glad that a foundation stone for the Ljubljana mosque will finally by laid. According to him, this act means that Slovenia respects differences among cultures in the country.

Pahor asked the minister about the situation in the region, in particular about the crisis in Syria and the Arab Spring. The pair also talked about the role of Islam in the globalised world, according to the press release.

Yes of course what doest KSA has to do with a mosque opening in Slovenia? If you were all up for freedom of worship just Google and find out how many years it took for the 2.5% of Slovenian population and how many people are still not happy. It was simple thread to appreciate but you put the seed of criticism as usual and of course we know you are from west.

ohh wait a minute, r u acting as a sensitive patriot?

So what does 9/11 have to do with a mosque in Slovenia? Does this mean the Saudis will become more tolerant and allow churches, temples and Buddhist places of worship?

As much as you guys hate the west at least they protect freedom of worship.

llr, those are poll results not evidence.

i work for a blasting company and it is very very very impossible to drill all those beams and supports for implanting explosives.

if they had, explosives would have been planted while the 2 towers are being built. and many factors would have added if the explosives were planted. humidity, moisture, the chemical breakdown of the explosives itself.

nuff said.

I still remember Ground Zero Park51 controversy and biased protest without even having sufficient information as many scientists have proved that 9/11 was an inside Job. Anyway Great Mind works very fast in some topics especially criticism, appreciation is very painful. :)

Kareena Iran is a strange case, you can find a Sunni Mosque in Israel but not in Tehran.

BE I am all for the freedom to worship, if that is what people want to do then it is their choice. In places like Saudi and Afghanistan non - muslims are treated like criminals.

So it's ok to for mosques to be opened in Christian lands and built on the site of Jewish temples in Jerusalem but not in Mecca? Does your religion teach you discrimination against those that are different to you? That is shocking.

I am very open minded and I behave in other religion as a practice between humans and God.

Due to a religion fact what are you asking for will not happen because it's part of what Mecca symbolic icon for muslim.

I applaud Qatari Government for this move and it is in the right direction.

I'm hoping for the first church in Mecca since the 7th century when they were all destroyed and the Jews were expelled. I don't have much hope though, but kudos to the Slovenians for being so open minded and tolerant of others of differencing beliefs.

How respectful and tolerant of them to allow this. Here's hoping for a church in Saudi and a Sunni mosque in Tehran to show their religions tolerance of people of other faiths
