Not sure I see the humour in this cartoon from today's Gulf Times.

They might as well have just added the child saying 'but then my Daddy is going to 'r*pe you in the desert', to even things out in total destruction of taste.

I like cartoons. I have some, which are very funny but I don't know how to add them here. I usually find lots сartoons at shared files SE http://filecraft.com . But as for this one, I think the picture is fine, but the words are not.

This is something we can call "Bad Humour" Its portrayed in a bad way....the message is not clear..

by the way most house maids are the victim not the culprit and what I see everyday is that the Landlords treat them in a bad way.

Everything's gonna be alright!!!

By shreeya• 9 years 7 months ago.

And why the maid shown wearing a red dot on her forehead? Is he singling out certain nationality?

The fact is the maids come from many other nationalities too.

Everything's gonna be alright!!!

I have heard stories such as maids burning babies alive by placing them in ovens and and i have heard from a friend who's student's hands were burned when her maid/nanny placed them on the burning stove..Those maids did end up in jail, but not without a "cause"...yes so msg is simple, u abuse ur maids and ur risking ur children's lives.

Oh my God! I CANNOT believe that was printed. How on earth could they allow something like that??? Which ever angle they were going for, it is completely wrong of them to present the issue like this. For the maid. For the child. For the parents.

Disgusting...

By Arien• 9 years 7 months ago.
Arien

Tha message is to the sponsors : Better treat them well or the kid will be the one suffering. Howz that???

There's a very big difference between shouting and poisoning a baby. If they were really addressing the issue rather then trying to justify it, the maid would have a black eye and not look like a villainous beast.

By britexpat• 9 years 7 months ago.
britexpat

the caption clearly says "your mum shouted at me today, just because I broke a plate" ..

Therefore the maid is feeling that she was unjustly abused by her employer.

Perhaps the translation from Arabic to English does not work. I do agree that it may have been better worded..

By Olive• 9 years 7 months ago.
Olive

As I see in the author is blaming the maids for their treatment.

It's not always the case. There are many reported maids abusing

Children cases, some are even caught on camera.

In my opinion, most of those cases are because how badly they

Were treated by their sponsors.

By Ines_pt• 9 years 7 months ago.

The message is clear and simple as brit says, yet it is a black joke.

Whose the editor? How much he get paid to curse the maids??

freinds atleast read whats written beside that ... its clear and simple ...

By Olive• 9 years 7 months ago.
Olive

Funny brit, I thought the problem here was sponsors putting the maids in hospital, not the maids putting the children. If he wanted to represent this he could have done it many other ways besides villainizing the maid.

By britexpat• 9 years 7 months ago.
britexpat

The message is quite simple..

Abuse the maid and you risk her abusing the child

By Olive• 9 years 7 months ago.
Olive

Regardless genesis, there is a big difference between verbally humiliating and poisoning a child in retaliation. This cartoon is justifying mis-treatment of maids and turning them into villains.

By Amoud• 9 years 7 months ago.
Amoud

I don't like this at all.....

Even the bad translation doesn't cover what bad taste this is in.

It's badly translated. The arabic term used meant verbally humiliated

Not a yell.

By Olive• 9 years 7 months ago.
Olive

No Partiality??? Are we looking at the same cartoon?? This cartoon is trivializing the abuse of housemaids by trying to justify it! A yell is equal to poison???? There is nothing neutral about this cartoon.

By rMs_000• 9 years 7 months ago.
rMs_000

It describes about the cruelty of some sponsors.. and devilish reaction of house maids. Editor doesn't show any partiality to both of them i say. So its neutral..

By Olive• 9 years 7 months ago.

I really don't see how it can be either way. Maid get's yelled at = poisoned child???? Little bit of overreaction by the maid I'd say.

By rMs_000• 9 years 7 months ago.
rMs_000

It can be on either way olive. Readers can chose which ever way they want!

Then why is it justifying the way the maids are treated? It seems like he's trying to portray the maids as evil.

By genesis• 9 years 7 months ago.
genesis

Mohammed cartoons are never meant to be funny. Most of his work is dark altough sarcastic. I think it's badly translated, the intention is how cruel some sponsors treat their maids

DaRude, he'll say the housemaid isn't wearing hijab, therefore she's capable of anything because she's evil.
