Girl trapped in school bus for hours

DOHA: A four-year-old girl was trapped in a school bus for hours — from early morning until the time the school closed for the day early in the afternoon.

The girl was headed for the school with other children. She slept on the way and no one noticed. The bus reached the school and everyone got down except the girl. The driver locked the doors of the bus and went away without realising the girl was inside.

The girl got up from her sleep a little later and began screaming finding she was alone in the empty bus. As the bus was parked in a desolated place, no one could hear her. Tired and fearful, she fell unconscious.

She was spotted in this condition hours later when the school closed for the day and students and the driver returned to the bus for the journey back. The school management was immediately informed of the incident.

School officials sent the girl to children’s emergency in Al Sadd and called her father telling him that his daughter was running temperature and so had been referred for medical attention.

From the children’s emergency she was referred to Hamad General Hospital. The girl is from a Qatari family and had joined the school just three days before the mishap.

Class teachers/school authorities should have a rule to inform the parents immediately if any child is absent from classes without prior intimation by the student or the parents to the class teacher. Anyway thank god the lil child is safe.

Hope she is back to normal... The fact that there is no proper transport management system in place in many of the schools to ensure safety of pupils en route.

Quite often bus drivers behave as if they are transporting "goods". It is vitally important that the the concerned management or whoever is in-charge of the transport section has to properly communicate the rules and regulations whereby drivers operate within a set of guidelines. They just hire and fire them when needed. A standard practice in school buses is to have a bus attendant on board to take care of these issues. But sometimes they do not even make an effort to help kids to be on the safer side while ascending / descending the vehicle or performing a final check after every trip. This is one area where the school management should pull thier sleeves up and make some improvements to ensure safety of children.

lucky are the parents who can manage to drop their kids to school themselves.. but to some who can't like me, i rely on her private transport, my mom picked the driver personally.

Like many parents I get up early....take the son to school myself......

No way.... I will put my son on these buses with kids running around and also these drivers...... Also I see some of these kids get dropped at school by private drivers.... I always wonder do these parents ever see the way some of these drivers drive??!!

Last year my kid was 5 . Her usual bus came with a new assistant . My kid went out to the bus - but the woman did not even look out the door . She did not open it .

After a while she looked at her watch and told the driver to go . he did not look around either and he did not notice that there was a child near the bus ...

Luckily my child was unhurt . But i think that a minimum IQ test should be passed before anybody is allowed to work with kids ...

"should"?

awww... a four year old... the bus conductor should always check the bus before locking it up.

By anonymous• 13 years 5 months ago.

The driver "should", but he doesn't. There are no rules and regulations. It's up to the intelligence of the individual. And that is rare here, as you know.

all they need to do , is make the bus drivers check the bus for kids left behind , before they park the bus or so.

Very easy to do and it will make sure ,stuff like that don't happen again.

the simplest things they can't do , I don't get it

Alhumdolillah she is ok. The drivers should check the buses before leaving and locking for a long time.

jackmohan2007: true, management couldn't be directly responsible but maybe indirectly. Lack of proper training & dictation to the drivers.

Also, its always the management who has to be answerable even thou anyone is at mistake.

The girl isn't Qatari.

I heard her father on the Arabic radio, he was speaking Tunisian.

What a horror for a kid to happen on the 3rd of school...

It could put her off going to school...phew!

And sending the kid by private transport is even bad....unless its a parent and a carpool. These guys extract personal information about everything from these kids...and one would have no idea if these guys are a pervert!

School buses have their own minus points....but the minus points of personal transporter are way too much....

normally when students get off the bus, the driver keeps an eye noticing everyone,, just coz this gal was pretty new into the bus, the driver might havent had her in mind.

alhamduliAllah, the girl is safe! Also, change of climate helped her stay in better situation or else this incident could'v been worse if happened to be about two months back.

I think they were only busmates. And it's the duty of the driver to make sure no one was left in the bus when he leaves it.
