Is Qtel DSL slow for everyone else too, or is it just us?

Slow at work, slow at home, started a couple weeks ago and getting progressively worse.

I think Qtel is not upgrading their bandwidth fast enough to accommodate new DSL subscribers.

Anyone else with mysteriously slowing DSL?

When can we expect the Emiri decree for outside telecomm competition to come into effect, and rid the world of the scourge that is Qtel?

The browsing is pretty much the same for me, so is the ping latency and the download speeds. Only annoying thing that I am experiencing is constantly getting errors while signing into Windows Live Messenger, apparently because of socket [key port] problems. Had to log in thru GAIM at regularly http port. I heard the service is also effected depending on the area you live in.

Has it gone downhill since the Asian Games finished?

Maybe they removed the additional facilities provided for the games.

OK now the question is, where do we sign a petition to Qtel to get them off their lazy a$$es?

The majority of these speed checks are actually international, the problem with that is -

Qtel check all the packets on the way back in to Qatar (via filters) this is a slow process in the world of bits/bytes and packets. This is why you get such a poor response.

However I do agree, the service is abysmal at the best of times, there is a local based speed checker but I cannot for the life of me remember what it is, when I used this it still came up short of what I am paying for however still far better than the results I was getting on an international speed check service.

You're born, you take s**t. You get out in the world, you take more s**t. You climb a little higher, you take less s**t. Till one day you're up in the rarefied atmosphere and you've forgotten what s**t even looks like. Welcome to the layer cake son.

I have the fastest service they offer the 2MB ADSL and everytime i test it using some websites and programes it said that is actually not even ADSL but actually dual ISDN, the transfer and browsing speed are as slow as a regular person throwing a punch at me, which is pretty much slow motion!! I am very dissapointed seriously but its a monopoly what can we do?

I would have had ten times the amount of por....i mean educational material if the speed was really ADSL!

Add me to the list. Sure is frustrating to say the least though! Like everyone else, I am glad it isn't just me, at least we all know it isn't our computers that is the problem....

What a relief to hear this! I was thinking it was wondering if we had a computer issue! I have had the same issues with DSL.

Thanks to the QL site I am able to get some answers!

My DSL sucks too, and I was hoping that it wasn't just me. We are supposed to have the 1Mb connection in our place and it really doesn't seem like it. If i'm downloading anything at all, even if i'm only downloading at 20-30kb total, the connection to other computers in the house slows to a crawl.

Unfortunately though, I firmly believe that there will never be a better alternative, at least not within the next 3-5 years. Qtel has all the resources in the world to build an infrastructure that's worth a damn, but they just won't. I'm glad all of our money is going to such good use.

Yes. It is very slow specially since yesterday. I think it is better to go for dial up instead of ADSL

It is impossible to brouse during rush hour (3:30 to 7:00), hotmail, yahoo, almost impossible to connect, local sites are worse than international sites...? i called several times, but only got "we're working on it, we have new routers..., turn-off your computer for 10 minutes and restart" !!

There were major network upgrades before the Games, but now, it looks as if those upgrades have evaporated...

I agree.....we've been experiencing problems for about a week now and it seems to be getting progressively worse!Glad we're not the only ones with this problem...it makes trawling through worthless threads so much of a bore!!!

When you come to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on.
