Raids to enforce 6-hour work rule

Doha: The Ministry of Labour says it will conduct surprise raids on private companies to check for compliance of the 6-hour working rule during Ramadan.

As per the labour law, all private companies are required to abide by the six-hour working norms for their employees  during Ramadan irrespective of their being Muslims or non-Muslims.

Some companies have asked their employees to work in one shift consisting of six hours while others, especially hospitals and clinics, have opted for two shifts, mornings and evenings. The evening shift will begin after Iftar, an Arabic daily reported yesterday.

in my company they even released a memo saying that we should work regular hours even if its Ramadan... and they also released a memo that the company will no longer pay overtime even if some of my co-workers work at 3am up to 8pm or even longer... is there any hotline where we can ask information about this matter... all i read are news and not an actually disciplinary action to the companies that does not follow this law...

is there a number we can call to place a complain or at least suggest a company whom they should raid? This isn't about being lazy, it's just about being fair. I am lucky enough to be in a company that follow the rules. But laws should be enforced, those who doesn't abide by it should be punished.I've got some friends who are forced to work more than what is required by the law and they don't get overtime pay, complain and get fired. That's just plain slavery.

just because we are lucky enough to have a job to survive doesn't mean that we don't deserve to have equal rights as human beings. or that we can't complain if something wrong is being done. just because it's the hand that feeds you doesn't mean you can take abuse from it.i do understand that we have to be considerate of our colleagues who are fasting, but should that include having to stay later than the non-ramadan hours to do the leftover work and/or redo work to correct the mistakes of the people who left early? oops, let out a lot of steam from where i'm sitting ;P
