Warning..man exposing himself

By luluRM

I wanted to let everyone know about what happened to me..I was in a busy road in an area behind KFC opposite Ahli hospital and I was sitting in my car waiting for my husband for a couple of minutes.I noticed a man in his mid twenties staring into the car from opposite,I avoided looking at him and was in conversation on my mobile,a few seconds later I realised he was now next to my window and was exposing himself and tried to open the door..Thank God the car was locked!!! I screamed and was banging on the window for him to go away and only did when there was a passerby.
I gave a description to the police and unfortunately no street cameras.
I wanted to let everyone know and to advise that EVERYONE LOCK THEIR DOORS when parked!
Stay safe.

the different kind of case happened with me few months back..I had to take taxi from Salwa Road to Ramada. It was evening time nearly 6 PM. I was very new to Doha but I was knowing the way to go to Ramada as it was straight road. I took Karwa, the taxi driver was Indian. He started talking to me in our language and I was avoiding him. Then he took left from Decoration R/A, so I told him you took wrong way. He repiled that he will take short cut...I told him to take U turn and take me to the same main road again. But that fellow took somewhere inside, it looked like residencial area. He started talking all nonsense that he stoped the car becz he saw me and I am so beautiful etc etc... I was really scared, so I told him to stop the car but he said he will drop me at Ramada. Then I called my husband and He was on call with me till I reached Ramada.

Believe me I was so scared, as soon as I reached Ramada, I gave him money whatever was in my hand and I ran towards my hubby...

My hubby went to see if the cab is still there to note the number and complain about it but he left before that...

Eesh, I ran after a guy who was standing on the road side right in front of Sharjah City center(can you imagine his guts...). I could not run with my overweight and so screamed at the top of my voice "Stop. Or I will call the police". To my luck(and to his bad luck :-) he stopped. Some guys who obviously knew him gathered and said" If you call the police he will be deported tomorrow. Please dont make his family starve". I gave him two slaps and went back home...

I got so mad as my daughter and I were shopping for her Birthday dress and did'nt deserve this.

Some of the lady friends said his "interest" might have disappeared for some time atleast if not forever.....

my wife was driving down Salwa Road with our kids (5 and 2) when a guy in a white landcruiser pulled up next to her and started making rude gestures with his tongue at her. My daughter was even asking what the man was doing. My wife ignired him and kept driving towards Hyatt plaza where she was heading. this guy followed her all the way from Salwa road up aspire zone and down to Hyatt plaza into the parking lot. When she parked he stopped the car and got out asking her to be his girlfriend. She pulled out her phone and pretended to take photos of hie license plate (she didnt actually have a camera phone!) and he bolted.... wish i had been in the car! My wife did the right thing I think by "pretending" to take his photo

heard about a lot of rape cases in the desert and true they go unmentioned in the media.

However, rape in doha is different than anywhere else. Other places, the victim is threatened, beaten up and yelled at and sometimes killed, In Doha, many males in the car tell the girl, we are not going to hurt you, they actually do not beat her or do anything to her but they make her know that she is only getting out of the car once they are done of her. and once done, they actually take her back home lol.

Very weird but i was told that by number of people, and one victim.

The numbers of reported sexual harassments and rape cases in the Czech republic increase in summer time versus winter , despite the late sunset in summer.

The head of Prague's police department (a lady) has claimed that due to some women's dress code in summer,it may provokes and send green signals to predators to harass and even rape those ladies.

Another example I think it was Mexico(not sure) where females have called for a separate public transportation service due to the constant sexual harassment they've encountered. I think they have won their case and got a separate public transportation lines for females only. So pervs are everywhere and not in a particular culture or society, I bet you if someone else had seen this guy flashing himself, probably he would end up in HMC by now. Modesty can't prevent such particular cases , but can help prevent other cases.

Perversion/harassment isn't an acceptable behaviour even if the female victims were naked, men need to control themselves more, but women have to be careful as well. You can't defy basic instincts.

From my experience reporting to authorities hardly makes any difference.

Went to a police station when a guy who was following me tried to push me off the road ie the Wakra Ummsaid highway...Want to know what the stupid officer said....Wallahi woman like you...anyone follow...me also....

@#$%^&* ....was really angry, mad as hell, all my primal instincts came to the surface, but told myself to calm down and just walked out of the station.

Christmas Eve 2004, I had left work, went for a quick drink with friends, and went home, I lived on the 03rd floor at the time, I took the Elevator, went to put the key into the door, and was approached by 2 guys, one from the front and one from behind... they had went up the stairs and were following the Elevator Level.

They started to grab me... I took the key, managed to cut one of the guys faces... and the other punched me in the face, I ran from apartment door to apartment door banging and screaming for help, but everyone was out... eventually someone opened the door... and I got to safety.

This is the first time I have spoken out about this and I think there are alot more stories like this around... luckily for me, I am a tough girl, and can fight back, I am thankful it was me, and not someone weaker / smaller.

These 02 guys were caught by the police, recieved lashes and were both deported, they had been drinking 100% alcohol / parfum... and admitted they had been watching me for 2 weeks... I ended up with a Fractured arm and a black eye, thank god nothing more happened.

Just be careful ladies, this happens everywhere in the world, no matter how safe you think the place is where you live etc.

God knows what his intention was, maybe he wanted to ask for some money or help, but whatever, it was very scary for me as the road was empty and he was following me from far, and knocking on my window... may God bless all the ladies from this type of incident…

Kbaisi, Xena, when abaya wearing women are not spared by this so called perverts, what happens to ladies like Xena she is already half naked, any hooligan might go to an extent of molesting her, because majority of the expatriate community come from third world countries, most of them married batchelors, they pass thier time watching western X rated movies and in back of thier minds they think all western people are naked "and it is a fact" this is your culture, a western man before he settle down in his life he sleeps with many women (an average 10)and vice versa, exposing your bodies is normal practice in your countries men and women indulging in open sex is also allowed in public, and all western nations feel proud of thier culture. If you bring the same culture to a conservating country like Qatar, obviously you will face problems.

If John thinks that I an animal he is worse than that, I have conveyed a simple message to wear an abaya to protect the modesty of the women, he is abusing whole muslim world without understanding their culture. My friend, you are degrading the women in your culture exposing her body and you are not protecting her.

By marycatherine• 11 years 3 months ago.

reported rapes and assaults here are low simply because of attitudes like pajeroman and the social stigma atached . It happens here just as much as it does anywhere in the world - women here don't/won't go to the police for fear of arrest, for fear of being abandoned by their families, for fear .... (you fill in the blank).

Well this happened to me a year back. I was walking down the street near my house as couldnot get a cab then this man(sorry nothing personal)in a thob(the national costume)passes by in a big 4 wheeler he moves ahead stops the car and waves as though asking to come and sit and to make matter worse when ignored, as I kept walking he takes a U turn comes back and now he has a wad of cash(money) in his hand. I freaked and started to move faster and gave him a stern look...and guys mind you I was not dressed immodestly..I was in my damn ABAYA...what else do these perv need to stay off. Well I managed to dodge him and he was not seen

This is an ARAB Nation...women should feel protected and safe atleast here.

By hamadaCZ• 11 years 3 months ago.

We both agree on men's self control part.Indecent clothing or too much meat exposure will make women more vulnerable to such pervs, clothing is a contributing factor here, pers are the issue, that's my opinion.

Btw we had a case at work when a lady filed a sex harassment claim against another co worker. The HR manger (another lady) asked her to stop exposing her thongs collection first then the committee may consider her case more seriously !

By Chelsea• 11 years 3 months ago.

It's all a matter of opinion and is different in every case. Women in abayas are just at risk of being followed, flashed or accosted.

There are some stunning arabic women walking round with beautifully made up faces and when they walk you can see their skyscraper high heels and skinny jeans. With some of the beautifully embroidered abayas, they can look really attractive! I think they would be MORE at risk then someone like me after a shift at the farm in ripped jeans and a t-shirt!

An abaya isn't an armoured shield - if anything I personally think it makes them look more vulnerable. There's a certain innocence in being so modest and a lot look like they wouldn't be able to fight back if anyone tried anything on with them. That's just a personal opinion though.

Yes, john that's true in this culture. women with abaya are protected and those without are at risk. What about the high rates of homosexuality in the muslim countries? Is this ok since they won't be producing any 'bastards'? Maybe the men should start wearing abbayas and cover their faces too, perhaps that will reduce their desires for one another.

Sag... you don't get out much, do you? 'Thank God such perversion is void in this culture. And what about that tonnes of porn produced in west to feed perverts'

What NON perverts would you be talking about? would those be the ones in traditional (not specifically local traditional clothing) that follow a woman around in their vehicle... or accost them on the streets and in parking lots? Would those be the ones that sit in their cars and R/A in the same traditional dress and make disgusting gestures with their mobiles phones... (one made eye contact with me and licked his phone - ewwww)

Would those be the NON perverts again in traditional dress (again nothing specific) that go around giving their mobile numbers to other men, in the hopes they will get some action....

No Sag, your society is not perverted... not in the least...

and just so you know Sag.... my method of dress is precisely Chelsea's - Jeans and T-shirt and normall smelling like animals... so I definately don't dress to provoke anyone.... but I seem to attract the weird ones...

Read today's newspaper about child abuse. Then extrapolate it to women. Children are very vulnerable, women are vulnerable because of culture and society here. (Don't ask, Don't tell)

"Perverts are a dime a dozen in all cultures .."

You admit it so learn to deal with the fact yourself as you don't want to take the advice or learn from the culture you currently live in. All women in this culture take precautions not to stimulate the perversive human nature of men. A saying goes that the most repeated task in a traditional indian woman's routine is that of fixing her saree part that covers her chest and head. I don't know if those who formed these rules were perverts.

And lo I read somewhere about a white collar perversion. A woman from UK admitted having masterbated her son to console him! Thank God such perversion is void in this culture. And what about that tonnes of porn produced in west to feed perverts?

This is why I hate westerners because whenever they point at something bad they aim to show it something peculiar of this culture which they boast themselves free of without understanding the cultural adherence that paves way for such behaviour. And those who belong to this culture, yet free of such thoughts get charged up to fight back.

It's not just in Qatar its happens everywhere. But when we first come here our senses are dulled into a false sense of security. Be very vigilant.

OMG! I used to think Doha is pretty safe. I have experienced some mean remarks by men in 4 wheels who think they are the God. I am glad i read this post and will make sure i carry something in my bag. Can anyone pls let me know where can i buy a pepper spray from? Knife would be better but something that will startle the pervert would be better.
