
Doha to host Capital of Culture in the Islamic World for year 2021

The Doha Capital of Culture in the Islamic World 2021 will be held under the patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and will start on March 8, 2021
The Islamic event will feature activities that will be held throughout the year under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, in cooperation with the Islamic World Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, and the strategic partners in the State of Qatar.
Doha has been chosen by ICESCO to be the Capital of Culture in the Islamic World for this year given its ancient history and legacy, the civilizational components and landmarks in Qatar that reflect the Islamic character, and the fact that Doha is considered a venue for dialogue, cultures, and openness to civilizations.
As a result of hosting this Islamic event, it will foster the bonds of friendship and respect between Qatar and other nations of the world. It also allows Qatar to showcase its cultural diversity and historic monuments, and the human values of its culture and ancient history.
The activities of Doha Capital of Culture in the Islamic World 2021 seek to promote the eternal Islamic values, promote the Islamic cultural heritage in an interconnected world, encourage creativity and innovation as civilized values that enrich the Islamic civilization and inspire the new generations in the Islamic world to enrich the global cultural scene through a productive and effective role.
Moreover, it will focus on cultural diversity as an added value for Islamic countries and the Islamic culture in general, and introduce the cultural experience of the State of Qatar and its efforts in promoting the Islamic culture.
Secretary-General of Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science Dr. Hamda Hassan Al Sulaiti pointed out that the city of Doha has fulfilled all the conditions and standards set by ICESCO for hosting the event.
He also said that Qatar's hosting of Doha Capital of Culture in the Islamic World 2021 contributes to realizing the Ministry's strategy for 2018-2022 which seeks to provide a developing cultural environment for the energies of the Qatari society in all its components that sharpens its capabilities in a national renaissance project that would transfer it to the ranks of developed and civilized countries, making the State of Qatar a model to be emulated and anchored for its cultural role regionally and internationally.
