Ramadan is finally here, and it is time we fulfill the spiritual obligations required during the holy month. One of the obligations of Ramadan is charity, primarily that of Zakat (mandatory charity) and Sadaqah (voluntary charity).

If you are looking for places to donate, here’s a list of charitable organizations and drives in Qatar.

Qatar Zakat Fund

Affiliated with the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, the Qatar Zakata Fund collects Zakat money from those who wish to donate, and distributes it to the poor as well as other Zakat causes.

There are 3 ways to donate to the Qatar Zakat Fund:

  • Direct transfer via bank account (click here for a complete list of bank account numbers)
  • In-person donation to Zakat collection offices (click here for location and timings of Zakat collection offices)
  • Online transfer through the Hukoomi e-service (click here for donation link)

Qatar Charity

One of the largest humanitarian and development organizations in the world, Qatar Charity provides lifesaving assistance to those in conflict in addition to providing the essentials for those living in poverty through sustainable development in social welfare, water and sanitation, education, nutrition and economic empowerment.

Currently, Qatar charity has field offices in 30 countries in addition to implementing partners in 20 others and is one of the first responders at global crises; the most recent being the earthquake in Turkey and Syria.

To donate, visit the Qatar Charity website and select the cause or project that interests you. Follow the instructions on the page to complete your donation. At Qatar Charity in addition to selecting a cause, you can also select which country you want your payments directed to.

During the month of Ramadan, Qatar Charity runs 4 programs which are:

  • Feed the fasting: an initiative that provides Ramadan baskets for those in need in countries around the world throughout Ramadan
  • Zakat: using funds to effectively serve some of the most vulnerable groups around the world
  • Expiation for missed fasting (Kaffarah): expiate your missed fasts that have been delayed indefinitely by donating to a charitable cause
  • Ramadan baskets: a basket consisting of all food essentials required during the month of Ramadan, helping those in need secure an average meal every day during Ramadan.

Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS)

Established in 1978, Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) is Qatar’s first voluntary charitable organization that works towards empowering vulnerable individuals and communities. An active member of renowned charitable organizations around the world such as the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, QRCS provides relief for those in need both locally and internationally.

To donate, visit the QRCS website and select the campaign, project or cause that most interests you. Alternatively you could also choose make a donation towards the QRCS Sadaqah causes which will be used for relief of refugees and displaced people, education projects, subsidies for families and orphans, water and sanitation projects and construction and operation of hospitals

Education Above All (EAA)

Education Above All is an organization that aims to provide an education for all children irrespective of gender, race or religion. The brainchild of Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation, EAA has had a massive impact on children around the world surpassing 14.5 million enrollment commitments for out of school children.

To donate visit the EAA website and select your cause. Enter the amount you wish to donate and follow the instructions on the page.

EAA is currently running projects geared towards educating children in countries such as Palestine, Cambodia, Sudan, Cambodia and more.

Qatar Cancer Society (QCS)

The Qatar Cancer Society is a non-profit humanitarian charity founded in 1997 that aims to raise awareness on cancer in addition to supporting and empowering people with cancer. The organization further helps in professional development and research in the field of cancer.

To donate, visit the QCS website, select the amount you wish to donate and proceed with the instructions on the page.

Al-Asmakh Foundation for Charitable Works (Afif Charity)

A Qatari humanitarian institution established in 2012, works towards helping the needy by improving their means of education, health and empowerment. Afif charity has a number of ongoing projects and campaigns in Qatar. Find out more about their charitable causes here.

To make a donation you need to visit the head office down D-Ring Road.

Qatar International School Food Drive (In collaboration with Wa’hab)

Giving you the chance to fulfill your spiritual obligations during the month of Ramadan, Qatar International School (QIS) has collaborated with Wa’hab Qatar (an organization that helps to feed the needy in various communities across Qatar) to organize a food drive at its premises from March 26 to April 6, 2023.

You can donate: Rice, canned food items, long life milk, milk powder, sugar, honey, lentils

Drop-off locations: Entrance to Secondary School (Gate 8), Entrance to Primary School (Gate B), Entrance to Early Years (Block A)
