The last 10 days of Ramadan are always steeped in worshipping as the rewards for prayers are multifold. In addition to the usual fasting and night congregation prayers called Taraweeh, Muslims also like to engage in ‘i’tikaf’ (seclusion of oneself in a mosque for 10 days) and the Qiyam al layl (late night prayers that extend until the last quarters of the night before suhoor).

Awqaf has assigned nearly 111 mosques this Ramadan for I’tikaf. There are several mosques in Qatar where the Qiyam can be performed. We’ve listed out some of the mosques, in terms of spaciousness, ease of access, ladies’ prayer areas, and popularity. Here are some mosques to perform Qiyam al Layl in Qatar for Ramadan 2023.

Imam Muhammad bin AbdulWahhab Mosque

Also known as the State Grand Mosque, Imam Muhammad bin AbdulWahhab mosque is much-preferred by the worshippers for taraweeh and Qiyam al layl. With a capacity of over 30,000 worshippers inside the mosque and in the grounds, the mosque is massive in size. There is a separate female prayer area as well as three libraries. Children under the age of 7 years are not allowed at the mosque during taraweeh and Qiyam so as not to cause inconvenience to other worshippers.

Qiyam Al Layl: 11:30 pm to 1:30 am

Ladies Prayer Area: Yes

Location: Al Muhandiseen St, Doha

Education City Mosque

The Education City Mosque (EC Mosque) is located in the Minaratein center and is a stunning architectural delight to behold. The mosque’s ample parking space, easy access to Doha Metro and Education City tram, and spacious prayer areas for men and women make it a popular choice among worshippers. This year, the prayers for Qiyam will be led by Sheikh Haitham Al-Dukhain.

Ladies Prayer Area: Yes

Al Shouyoukh Mosque

Al Shouyoukh Mosque, located near Souq Waqif and Amiri Diwan, is a cultural landmark in Central Doha. The mosque is a really good option for Taraweeh and Qiyam as it is has a good parking space and has quite a spacious female prayer area. The prayer areas are spacious and can accommodate over 1,000 worshippers.

West Bay Jamia Masjid

With a capacity of around 3,000, the West Bay Jamia Masjid is a majestic structure located in the West Bay area. The mosque is beautifully maintained and has ample space for female worshippers too. The parking facilities are excellent too with enough space outside the masjid as well as underground parking.

Ladies Prayer Area: Yes

Location: Um Awaraad St, West Bay, Doha

Al Mana Mosque

One of the very first mosques in Lusail City, the Al Mana Mosque is perfect for offering taraweeh as well as Qiyam al layl with the family. The mosque even has a semi-open courtyard that can accommodate more worshippers. It is one of the few mosques that hosts Qiyam and late night prayers throughout month of Ramadan, and not just the last 10 days.

Qiyam Al Layl: 11:30 pm

Ladies Prayer Area: Yes

Location: Lusail Marina Area, Lusail

Al Wukair Grand Mosque

Al Wukair Grand Mosque, which is also known as the Sheikh Muhammad bin Abdurahman Masjid, is also quite popular among those living in its vicinity. The stark simplicity of the mosque, coupled with its spacious courtyard and prayer areas makes it ideal for praying Qiyam al layl. With a capacity of 2,000 worshippers, the mosque is certainly quite preferable for families.

Qiyam Al Layl: 12:00 am

*Note: Most mosques do not allow children under the age of 7 to attend so as not to cause inconvenience to other worshippers who may also be in ‘i’tikaf’, so it is always practical to inquire before you head there with kids.
