Nassayem Qatar offers a unique culinary experience, blending traditional Qatari flavours into dishes that are refined and contemporary. This goes perfectly with the restaurant’s ambience, which reflects all the nuances of modern Arab gentility.
The opening night saw the space packed to the corners with ambassadors, which is fitting since the restaurant is located in Doha’s Diplomatic Club. With the concept of the restaurant being a mixture of cosmopolitan and traditional, local ideals, one could not have picked a better setting.
What stands out:
One of the starters, yagat bel zaytoun, is a flavourful white cheese topped with olives in sauce, and hits the perfect balance of salty and sour. The cumin-flavoured dip that comes along with the assorted bread basket is also a surprising favourite.
The cheese fatayer on offer are in exacting portions that satisfy any cheese cravings that may remain.
Follow these treats up with a satisfying main course of traditional seafood, including shrimp, topping the old favourite — basmati rice. Subtly flavoured and mouthwatering, this is definitely worth a try.
What not to miss:
Dessert is a small cardamom cake topped with a scoop of yellow ice cream of the same flavor, and encircled with a milk chocolate sauce.
The cardamom flavor is a Qatari favourite, and blends seamlessly into both textures of the dish. It is worth sampling with a hot coffee to go along, and freshens the palate after the rich flavours of the courses that precede it.
The combination of excellent food and atmospheric locale make Nassayem Qatar an important stop on the bucket list for exploring Qatar’s traditional flavours.
