Egypt’s Ali Farag wins third Qatar Classic title
In a nail-biting final between World No. 1 and World No. 2, Egypt’s Ali Farag beat Peruvian Diego Elias 3-1 to bag his third QTerminals Qatar Classic title in Doha yesterday.
Despite Farag’s impressive record it was Elias who took the first five points of the final. However, Farag flipped the momentum in his favor by scoring the next 10 out of 12 points and winning the first round 15-13.
Losing the first two rounds, Elias made a formidable comeback in the third round, with a 11-8 win. However Farag brought the thrilling final to an end by winning the final round with a score of 11-9 and clinching the men’s title of the QTerminals Qatar Classic.
Upon winning yesterday’s final at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex Farag said, “I had to put in a world class performance to be able to compete with Diego. He’s such a champion, the way he’s been playing these last couple of years.”
Farag also thanked the crowd at the final saying “the crowd lifted me up quite a bit, not just today but the whole week.”
