100 days to go: Doha to welcome world of athletics for the very first time
Another chapter of Qatar’s sporting legacy will be written in just 100 days when Doha will host more than 2,000 athletes from 213 countries and thousands of fans, officials and media personnel for the IAAF World Athletics Championships.
In its 17th edition, the World Championships come to the Middle East for the very first time. With a strong track record in hosting major athletics events, Doha’s edition of IAAF World Athletics Championships will stun everyone.
Scheduled to take place at the revamped Khalifa International Stadium, the competition will run from September 27 to October 6, and the organizational expectations from Doha will be as high as ever, thanks to its long series of successfully hosted events.
Besides the action on the track and field of Khalifa International Stadium, spectators are all set to enjoy a whole new experience in the stands with traditional Arab majlis seats as well as finish-line seats.
Away from the host venue, Doha’s iconic Corniche will be the place for the first-midnight marathon in the history of World Championships, with the picturesque view of the skyline as athletes make their way towards the finish line.
In addition to that, fans are gearing up to be fully immersed in the world of athletics as the IAAF World Athletics Championships takes place under a new schedule that removed morning sessions in favor of split evening sessions. This is to ensure that everyone has a chance to watch his or her favorite athletes.
