WATCH: QNB Stars League Week 15 highlights

League-leaders Al Duhail extended their tally to 36 points after claiming a narrow 1-0 victory over Al Wakrah while second-placed Al Rayyan dropped two points as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Al Khor at the end of the QNB Qatar Stars League Week 15 fixtures which were successfully concluded at the weekend. 

The Lions now have 32 points from 15 matches while the defending champions Al Sadd, who overcame a two-goal deficit to secure a 2-2 draw with Umm Salal, remain in the third position with 31 points.

Of the six matches played over the weekend (February 20-22), four ended in a draw with only two matches having a clear winner. A total of 10 goals were scored with Al Sadd versus Umm Salal’s match being the highest scoring with a total of four goals – two apiece.

Match: Al Shahania 0 vs Al Arabi 0

Al Shahania held Al Arabi to a goalless draw in Week 15 of the 2019-20 QNB Stars League at the Al Arabi Stadium on Thursday. Al Shahania and Al Arabi now have nine and 20 points respectively. It was Al Shahania’s sixth and Al Arabi’s fifth drawn encounter.

With only seven rounds of action remaining, Al Shahania needs to pull up their socks sooner if they are to stay away from the danger zone. For Al Arabi, the result was a setback in their bid to finish among the top four and thus stand a chance for an AFC Champions League berth.

Match: Al Ahli 1 vs Al Gharafa 1

Al Ahli and Al Gharafa played out a 1-1 draw in Week 15 of the 2019-20 QNB Stars League at the Al Ahli Stadium on Thursday. Ahmed Alaaeldin put Al Gharafa ahead in the 66th minute, while Shane Lowry helped Al Gharafa draw level in the 71st minute.

Al Ahli now has 18 points and Al Gharafa 25. Al Ahli played with 10 men from the 23rd minute after Jasem Mohammed was red-carded by referee Meshari Ali Al Shammari for his foul on Al Gharafa’s onrushing player Ahmed Alaaeldin. Al Gharafa had more of the ball in the first half, but Al Ahli created more opportunities.

Al Khor and Al Rayyan were locked in a 1-1 draw in Week 15 of the 2019-20 QNB Stars League at the Al Khor Stadium on Friday. Tiago Bezerra scored for Al Khor in the 55th minute, while Yohan Boli netted Al Rayyan’s goal in the 68th minute.

Al Rayyan moved to 32 points, but they dropped two crucial points that will have a strong bearing on their final position as they are strong title contenders along with leaders Al Duhail and reigning champions Al Sadd. For Al Khor, it was a valuable point in their bid to survive in the top flight. They are now on 11 points.

Al Rayyan had 69 percent possession of the ball and forced 13 corner kicks as against Al Khor’s two, to underline their domination.

Al Sailiya defeated Qatar SC 1-0 in Week 15 of the 2019-20 QNB Stars League at the Qatar SC Stadium on Friday. Al Sailiya were helped by an own goal by Elmehdi Barrahma in the 84th minute as they moved on to 20 points.

Qatar SC remained on 16 points. It was Al Sailiya’s sixth victory, whereas Qatar SC crashed to their seventh defeat. Possession was almost even in the first half, where both teams had their chances.

Match: Umm Salal 2 vs Al Sadd 2

Venue: Al Gharafa Stadium

Al Sadd came back from two goals down to secure a 2-2 draw with Umm Salal in Week 15 of the 2019-20 QNB Stars League at the Al Gharafa Stadium on Saturday.

The goals were scored by Ayoub Azizi in the 24th minute and Mahmoud Al Mawas in the 33rd minute for Umm Salal. Al Sadd came back through Marco Fabian in the 48th minute and Nam Tae-Hee in the 59th.

QNB Stars League fans were nearly in for a great shock as they watched Al Sadd fight their way back into a match that had seemingly slipped from their grasp. Having started dominantly, The Wolves were unable to challenge the scoreline in the opening period, with Marco seeing his long-range effort drift just wide of the upright, and it did not take long to be punished for their lack of predatory instinct when Umm Salal took a surprise lead.

Al Duhail put in a workman-like performance to overcome a gutsy Al Wakrah with a 1-0 victory in Week 15 of the 2019-20 QNB Stars League at the Al Duhail Stadium on Saturday.

The solitary goal of the night came in the 48th minute through Han Kwang-Song. Al Duhail has 36 points, while Al Wakrah stayed on 19.

Coming into the match, the QNB Stars League leaders were clear favorites for the victory, but were made to work hard by a resolute Al Wakrah who are looking to create distance between themselves and those at the bottom of the league.
