WATCH: Qatar Esports WEGA Global Games launched in style
Qatar has made a stunning entry into the world of global Esports with the official launch of the Qatar Esports WEGA Global Games.
A grand ceremony was held at the Khalifa International Stadium on January 16, 2020, to mark the opening of the first-of-its-kind as well as the largest e-championship in the region.
The tournament was announced in March last year after an agreement was signed between the Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF) and Wega, one of the world’s leading global payment solution developed by Truxtun Capital.
The grand opening ceremony convened fans and players under a mesmerizing celebration of the digital realm of gaming that came to life through AR and VR technologies.
The breathtaking opening marked the launch of this year's edition, as well as that of 2021 and 2022.
The Qatar Esports WEGA Global Games is a mega event that is expected to engage as many as 2.3 billion players to come face-to-face in the digital competition arena for a chance to win a range of prizes including cash.
This edition of the global games will feature CSGO, DOTA2, Street Fighter V, and eFootball PES series.
After the Grand Ceremony in Doha recently, the next highlights of the mega event include the WEGA Champions set to take place in March 2020, followed by a worldwide online competition starting September 2020, the QATAR Esports WEGA Global Games, and then the Global Games Great Final in December 2020.
The WEGA Champions in March will be open for middle east players to compete and celebrate Esports, in the state-of-the-art facilities of Aspire Zone, The Peninsula reported.
