The Al Gharafa versus Al Khor match which ended 6-3 in favor of Gharafa was the highest-scoring fixture of Week 7 of the 2020-21 QNB Stars League round of matches held on 26th and 27th November.

A total of 27 goals were scored across the six games.

At the end of the week, Al Sadd remains on top of the table with 19 points following their victory while three points separate them from second-placed Al Ahli who were held to a 1-1 draw in their encounter against Al Rayyan. Al Gharafa, 15 points, complete the top-three while remains rooted at the bottom of the table with just four points.

The QNB Stars League’s Week 8 matches will be played on 8th and 9th December, with three matches on each day. The fixtures are Al Duhail vs Al Sailiya, Al Wakrah vs Al Sadd, Al Arabi vs Al Rayyan, Umm Salal vs Al Kharaitiyat, Al Ahli vs Al Gharafa, and Qatar SC vs Al Khor.

Below are the highlights of Week 7:

Match:  Al Sadd 3 vs Umm Salal 1

Date: Friday, November 27, 2020

Venue: Al Gharafa Stadium

Al Sadd got the better of Umm Salal 3-1 at the Al Gharafa Stadium on Friday.

Akram Afif (35th minute), Santi Cazorla (50th-minute penalty) and substitute Hassan Al Haydous (90+1) scored for Al Sadd, while Roosbeh Mohammed netted Umm Salal’s only goal in the 40th minute.

Al Sadd thus maintained the top position in the table with 19 points following their sixth victory. The Wolves also remained as the only unbeaten team so far in the tournament.

Umm Salal crashed to their fifth defeat and stood on four points. Al Sadd, who dominated Umm Salal, were in full strength with the return of their players, mainly Qatar internationals, from country duty.

Match: Al Duhail 4 vs Al Kharaitiyat 1

Date: Friday, November 27, 2020

Venue: Al Duhail Stadium

Holders Al Duhail defeated Al Kharaitiyat 4-1 at the Al Duhail Stadium on Friday.

Almoez Ali (13th and 40th minutes), Ramin Rezaein (37th minute), and Khaled Mohammed (90+1) scored for Al Duhail. The Red Knights swelled their points tally to 12 with their fourth victory.

Khaldoun Ismail pulled one back for Al Kharaitiyat in the 55th minute. Al Kharaitiyat remained on six points following their fifth defeat. Al Duhail looked like they were out to make up for the 0-3 loss to Al Gharafa in the previous round and were in attacking mode from the word go.

Karim Boudiaf, Edmilson Junior, Rezaein & Co gave good support to the frontliners. Eduardo Rodriguez was the pick of the players, especially in the first half, even though he could not get into the scoring act. The Brazilian was unlucky on more than one occasion, with him being either off-target or thwarted by goalkeeper Shehab Ellethy.

Match: Al Gharafa 6 vs Al Khor 3

Date: Friday, November 27, 2020

Venue: Al Gharafa Stadium

Al Gharafa overcame Al Khor, winning 6-3 at the Al Gharafa Stadium on Friday.

Koo Ja-Cheol (16th minute), Homam Elamin (42nd and 50th minutes), Ahmed Alaaeldin (59th minute) and substitute Ahmed Al Janehi (75th and 90th minutes) scored for Al Gharafa.

For Al Khor, Rafael Dos Santos (fourth minute), captain Naif Al Breiki (74th minute) and Leonardo De Souza (79th minute) were the scorers. Al Gharafa took their tally to 15 points with their fifth victory, while Al Khor suffered their third defeat to be on four points.

It was an open game end-to-end that resulted in a nine-goal thriller. Al Khor opened the floodgates as early as the fourth minute, but it was Al Gharafa who mostly called the shots throughout.

That Under-23 players Homam and Al Janehi both contributed a double to the team’s big victory underlined the importance Al Gharafa have been giving to youth development over the last few years. Another Under-23 player, goalkeeper Salah Zakaria, too had an outstanding game, making a few saves.

Match: Al Ahli 1 vs Al Rayyan 1

Date: Thursday, November 26, 2020

Venue: Al Ahli Stadium

Al Ahli held Al Rayyan 1-1 with the help of a last-gasp goal at the Al Ahli Stadium on Thursday.

Franck Kom put Al Rayyan ahead in the 77th minute, the lead that was neutralized by Al Ahli’s Nabil El Zhar (90+5 penalty).

The signature match of Week 7, an encounter between clubs with great history and rich tradition in Qatar football, had all ingredients of a thriller.

Al Ahli and Al Rayyan now have 16 and 11 points respectively. Possession was almost equal, as both sides fought it out.

Match: Qatar SC 3 vs Al Arabi 0

Date: Thursday, November 26, 2020

Venue: Qatar Sports Club Stadium

Qatar SC blanked Al Arabi 3-0 at the Qatar SC Stadium on Thursday.

New recruit Youcef Belaili (38th-minute penalty and 87th-minute penalty) and Alejandro Jimena (90+5) scored the goals as Qatar SC took their points tally to nine, while Al Arabi stood on five points.

Qatar SC thus continued their good run, having beaten Al Wakrah in the last round. Incidentally, Belaili had netted the all-important goal in that match. In the process, The Kings had jumped from the bottom of the table to the eighth position then.

On the other hand, Al Arabi’s woes compounded, having lost 1-4 to Al Sadd in the Qatar Derby in Week 6. Both teams enjoyed equal ball possession.

Match: Al Sailiya 1 vs Al Wakrah 3

Date: Thursday, November 26, 2020

Venue: Al Ahli Stadium

Al Wakrah defeated Al Sailiya 3-1 at the Al Ahli Stadium on Thursday.

Mohamed Benyettou (49th minute), Omar Ali (52nd minute), and Cristian Ceballos (75th minute) scored for Al Wakrah, while Abdulqadir Ilyas (90+1) pulled one back for Al Sailiya. Al Wakrah raised their tally to 10 points and Al Sailiya remained on eight.

Both teams had dropped points in Week 6, Al Sailiya drawing goalless with Al Khor and Al Wakrah losing 0-1 to Qatar SC, so they played an open game. Al Wakrah attacked more, with Ceballos, Benyettou, and Omar Ali leading their charge. They gave Al Sailiya defenders a tough time.
