With the road to 2022 getting shorter, and Qatar fully embracing its role as one of the world's sports capital, our focus in today's QL Flashback Friday is on sports, in particular, on some of our very own local sports legends!

Shaun and the team of We Are Qatar hit the roads to test out people's knowledge of some of Qatar's most popular athletes.

These sports stars have brought done the nation proud with their outstanding skills and hard work!

How well do you know these top achievers who illuminate Qatar's sporting scene?

1. Talal Mansour

Talal is a retired Qatari sprinter who among other top honors earned four gold medals in the Asian Games in his fascinating career.

2. Mutaz Barshim

High Jump legend Barshim is probably one of the most popular and celebrated sports stars in Qatar at present. Among several accolades under his name, Barshim recently gave the nation another moment of joy by retaining his world champion title in high jump at the IAAF World Athletics Championships Doha 2019. 

3. Nada Arakji

A Qatari swimmer, Arakji wrote herself into the history books at the 2012 London Games when she became Qatar’s first-ever female Olympians. 

4. Hassan Al-Haydos

This 29-year-old football star is the captain of Qatar's national football team. Under his leadership, the Al Annabi rose to become the Asian Champions of football, after winning the AFC Asian Cup 2019 earlier this year. 

5. Nasser Al-Attiyah

A multi-talented personality, 48-year-old Nasser Al Attiyah is a Qatari rally driver and professional skeet shooter hailed as the Pride of Qatar. Earlier this year, the racing legend secured the 14th Qatar Rally title and remains a 13-time Middle East Rally Champion.
