Qatar Football Association to announce new date for Amir Cup finals
Qatar Football Association (QFA) has announced the postponement of the final of the 49 Amir cup for the 2020-21 season.
Al-Sadd and Al-Rayyan were scheduled to play at the finals of the Amir Cup on May 14 at the Jassim bin Hamad Stadium.
Al Sadd qualified for HH the Amir Cup final following a 3-0 win over Al Arabi on Sunday evening at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium at Al Sadd Club.
Nam Tae-hee opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a header for Al Sadd. Baghdad Bounedjah added the second in the 56th minute. Santi Cazorla scored the third goal for Al Sadd from the penalty spot in the 80th minute.
In the second semi-final, Al Duhail takes on Al Rayyan on Monday at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium at Al Sadd Club.
Al Sadd holds the record of winning HH the Amir Cup 17 times.
The announcement came after the Ministry of Public Health had informed the public on the gradual lifting of COVID-19 restrictions on Sunday.
The postponement of the finals is expected to allow a limited number of fans to attend the outdoor sports event, considering they are fully vaccinated.
According to QFA, the Amir Cup is a prestigious and hugely popular tournament, and games between Al-Sadd and Al-Rayyan have always attracted a lot of fans.
In full coordination with all the relevant authorities, especially the Ministry of Public Health, QFA will soon announce the new date of the final game.
