At its April 28 meeting in Manila, the International Basketball Federation confirmed that the State of Qatar would host the 2027 World Cup.
After reviewing all of the applications, the Central Council of the International Basketball Federation has decided that the State of Qatar will host the 2027 tournament, making it the first time the event has been staged in the Middle East and North Africa.
The International Federation explained why it supported Qatar's bid, saying, "The most important of which is the exceptional facilities that the State of Qatar possesses and its great keenness to develop sports, in addition to the enormous wealth it possesses in hosting major sports tournaments, the latest of which is hosting the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, which confirms its commitment to the development of sports and its ability to host such a major event." This success in Qatari athletics and the hard work of its citizens is the driving force behind this accomplishment.
Because of the preparedness of the sports facilities that will host the 2027 Basketball World Cup, this edition of the tournament will become the most sustainable in its history, as the Qatari file places special emphasis on legacy plans to highlight the tournament's contribution to the development of basketball in the region and the world.
Following China's 2019 tournament and the next tournaments in the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia for 2023, Qatar will become the third consecutive Asian host of the World Cup.
