Qatar to host Middle East’s first World Paramotor Championship
Qatar Air Sports Committee (QASC) of the Joint Special Forces announced yesterday, that they will be hosting the sixth FAI World Paramotor Slalom Championship for the first time in the Middle East from February 1-14, 2024.
The tournament is expected to witness the participation of 20 states, along with 70 athletes at Lusail coast. Having successfully hosted the 44th CISM World Military Parachuting Championship in 2021, it was noted that the upcoming tournament will feature wide international participation in all segments.
The 6th FAI World Paramotor Slalom Championships website also released a location map highlighting the stadiums, take off area and fan zones during the tournament.
Speaking during a press conference held on Sunday September 17,2023, Vice Chairman of QASC Abdullah Saeed Al Mansouri said that air sports has dramatically received wide popularity recently from spectators and fans in the Qatari community and hosting of this championship is a product of the unlimited support and full care the sport has been receiving from the wise leadership in the country.
Al Mansouri further said that QASC is keen on developing this enthusiasm and passion to offer young Qatari’s the opportunity to take on the largest international teams in air sports, including Paramotor contests.
The Qatari team will include 10 athletes according to the coach of the Qatari Paramotor team Saeed Abdullah Al Marri. He further said that the team is well prepared for the tournament, having trained at an external camp in Spain and aims to put in a good performance.
Adding that the tournament is the first of its kind in the region, QASC Captain Hazza Hamad Al Attiyah stated that Qatar is all set to host the championship while Al Mansouri said that QASC is preparing to make this tournament a title of excellence with the solidarity and cooperation of the tournament organizing committee.
