The third edition of the Qatar Balloon Festival returns this year with more than 50 hot air balloons from around the world. The 10-day event will take place from January 19 – January 28 at the Old Doha Port.

Main attractions

Sunrise balloon launches

If watching the sunrise is something on your bucket list this year, here’s a rather novel way to do that. Witness the launch of over 50 hot air balloons up close from take-off points or head to a nearby area for a majestic view of the hot air balloons at sunrise.

The mass launches will take place at dawn every day. However, exact timings and take off points for the sunrise balloon launches will vary depending on the weather. Visit the festival’s instagram page which will be updated on a daily basis with exact timings and take off points.

Tethered flights

Just as exciting as the hot air balloon launches, the tethered flights include balloons professionally tied and secured to the ground. Floating a couple of feet above you, the balloons make for a mesmerizing sight during the festival.

Night glow

The festival will run into the night with balloons illuminated to create a spellbinding glow-in-the-dark effect. The hot air balloons will be lined up alongside each other, glowing in the dark, accompanied by the melodic notes of the festival’s musical events.

Fun-filled entertainment and delicious food for everyone

Expect a host of entertainment features including live musical and dancing performances, a DJ, walking mascots and jugglers at the Qatar Balloon Festival.

Kids can have fun at the special arena featuring a variety of games, activities and slides. The festival will also include food and beverage kiosks.

Where can we buy tickets for a balloon ride?

While the festival is free to attend, tickets for a balloon ride can be bought at Asfary.com. The tickets will be sold at a subsidized price of QAR 499 per person from January 2 – March 10, 2023. The unique flight over Doha is expected to last around 45 minutes after a short briefing with the pilot. The pre-arranged meeting point will be informed via email or WhatsApp after booking.
