Doha International Book Fair 2023: All you need to know

The 32nd Doha International Book Fair (DIBF) will be open to the public from June 12 to 21, 2023. DIBF will be hosted for 10 days and organized by the Ministry of Culture. The book fair is a much-awaited event and is set to welcome a host of readers, publishers, intellectuals and authors from different fields.

History of DIBF

The Doha International Book Fair is one of the oldest and most highly-regarded international book fairs in the Gulf region. With its inception in 1972, it has made pathways for many Arab and foreign countries to participate in the event and outdo themselves each year.

The inception of the very first DIBF was done by Dar al Kutub al Qatariya in 1972 and was held once every two years until the year 2002. Since then, DIBF has become an annual occurrence and has attracted several important publishing firms from across the world. From having just 20 publishers at the first edition to now attracting more than 400 publishers from over 35 countries, DIBF has come a long way.

Slogan of the year

The slogan for the year 2023 is ‘With reading we rise’. The Ministry of Culture stated that the slogan stands for the Qatari people’s love for reading. The slogan also demonstrates the community’s inclination towards cultural awareness, knowledge sharing, and appreciation for sciences.

Things to do at DIBF 2023

The Doha International Book Fair 2023 is more than just a book fair. Apart from buying books, visitors can visit the stalls of many Qatari and international publication houses and browse through their most recent publications. Several seminars, workshops, and panel discussions are expected to take place, connecting industry intellectuals and promoting the sharing of ideas. Activities and events may be held for all age groups to cultivate the love for reading and inspire them to share knowledge.
