Musfur Sinkhole

Location: Umm Al Shabrum 
Distance from Doha: 45 kms 
Why Visit: Largest known of the still accessible sinkhole caves in Qatar. Can see amazing rock formations and nesting birds. 

The Musfur Sinkhole is one of Qatar’s most breath-taking hidden treasures. It is Qatar's largest accessible sinkhole cave, and with a 40-foot-wide opening offering relatively easy access for exploration. It is estimated to have formed 500,000 years ago and has a depth of 325 feet below the earth’s surface. It is perfect to visit during the warm summer months, when its cool temperatures inside provide respite from the heat. With cautious driving, even a sedan can reach the Musfur Sinkhole. 

Galactic Core Bay 

Location: Ras Eshairij 
Distance from Doha: 98 kms 
Why Visit: Perfect place to photograph the galactic core of the Milky Way along with some amazing sunsets over the ocean. 

With a name as cool as "Galactic Core Bay," you'd expect nothing less than pure awesomeness, right? Nestled in the uninhabited expanse of the country's northwest, it offers an unparalleled vantage point for observing the majestic galactic core of the Milky Way. This secluded gem is a haven for stargazers, offering unobstructed views of not just the galactic core but also amazing sunsets. However, its remote location comes with its challenges – the paths leading here can be treacherous, making it essential to venture in groups and sturdy 4x4 vehicles. 

Al Thakira Mangroves 

Location: Al Dhakira 
Distance from Doha: 60 kms 
Why Visit: One of Qatar’s oldest and largest mangrove forest provides a unique experience away from Qatar’s desert landscape. Watch migratory birds or explore on a kayak. 

Al Thakira Mangrove Forest stands as one of Qatar's oldest and largest, a surprising oasis amidst the desert landscape of Qatar. The resilient mangroves thrive here despite saline waters and create a unique ecosystem that attracts migratory birds such as herons and flamingos during certain times of the year. You can also observe numerous types of fish and crustaceans all year long. This is the perfect spot to unwind and be one with nature, not something you would expect in Qatar.  One of the best ways to explore the mangroves is through kayaking.  

Film City or Ghost Town 

Location: RasAbrouq (Zekreet) 
Distance from Doha: 90 kms 
Why Visit: A creepy abandoned town, in the middle of the desert, built for an Arabic series. A unique, Instagrammable  place to explore and you may even see some ostriches and oryx nearby. 

Looking for adventure? It doesn’t get better than a ghost town. Constructed to mimic a picturesque ancient Bedouin-style settlement, it is believed Film City was built for an Arabic television series or a Hollywood production. You can wander freely through the empty streets, climb the turrets, and immerse themselves in the surreal atmosphere of this cinematic ghost town. You can also observe wildlife like ostriches and oryx in the neighborhood. It is advisable to travel in a sturdy vehicle to navigate the rugged terrain and reach this remote destination safely. 

Barzan Towers 

Location: Umm Salal Mohammed 
Distance from Doha: 28 kms 
Why Visit: Immerse yourself in Qatar’s cultural heritage and get a slice of history. A must-visit destination for history enthusiasts.

Purple Island 

Location: Al Khor

Why Visit: A beautiful island teaming with mangroves. Cross the picturesque wooden bridge to the beach and enjoy the breathtaking landscape. 

Named after the purple flowers that grow in the area, Purple Island is an oasis teeming with mangroves and is a tranquil escape from the city. You can indulge in leisurely walks and observe the many birds on the island. Nature lovers of all ages can enjoy spotting fish, crabs, fossils and other forms of wildlife while taking a stroll along the salt marshes. Zubarah Fort
