Just like us, our pets need exercise too. And with the weather just short of perfect, nothing beats a good long walk in the park, not just for your pooch but also for you.

Qatar is pet-friendly and while dogs are not allowed in public places, there are many parks here where you and your furry friend can have a good time. Needless to say, no matter which park you choose to go make sure you carry baggies and pooper scoopers to clean up after your dog.

Give your pooch a taste of the outdoors at these fab places in Qatar.

5/6 Park

A very popular park with dog owners, 5/6 has a lot of open green spaces with tree fencing and bushes. It also has a unique plant maze in the shape of Qatar’s map and inspired by the human fingerprint. There are also plenty of art installations and wall murals along with outdoor seating, restrooms, cafes and restaurants. Keep your dog on a leash, clean up after them and you can have a great time at 5/6 Park.

Timings: 6am – 7pm (for the maze)

Location: Onaiza

Al Bidda Park

We just cannot get enough of Al Bidda Park, which is massive, ideally located, has so many facilities and to boot is dog friendly. The park has lovely landscaping and plenty of open green areas for kids and dogs to run along. Al Bidda Park has become the meeting ground for dog owners where they meet up, socialise, and stroll with their pets. It is also the location of Doha’s first off-leash dog park opened by Barkers & Mittens Pet Boutique. This unique park-in-park has free entry and offers plenty of play area for the pooches and benches for the parents to relax.

Timings: 7am – 10am, 4pm – 10pm (for the Barkers & Mittens Dog park)

Location: Al Corniche

Doha Sports Park

Situated at the Doha Golf Club, Doha Sports Park is a multi-sports and activities venue. It features high-quality pitches for football, rugby, and they also host numerous public events. This family-friendly park is open to dogs and during the weekend, you will find a lot of dogs around. Chat up with other dog owners while your pet plays with his furry friends.

Timings: 4pm – 12 am

Location: West Bay

The Pearl Qatar

Dogs are welcomed at all the parks at The Pearl. In fact, they are even allowed on the main roads. Places you need to keep your pooch away from at The Pearl Qatar are the beaches, swimming pools and common areas. Also steer them clear of Porto Arabia, Madina Central, and Qanat Quartier where pets are not allowed.

Timings: Various timings

Location: The Pearl Qatar

Oxygen Park

A futuristic, natural area, Oxygen Park is the largest green space in Education City. With hills of varying height, and several sections like shade garden, scent garden, sound garden and wind garden, Oxygen Park has some amazing vistas. The walkaways weave up and down the lower and upper spaces, channelling wind through the park, keeping it cooler than the surrounding places throughout the year, making it the perfect place to walk with your dog. However, keep away on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 6pm to 10pm, for its Ladies Night and dogs are not allowed.

Timings: 6am – 10pm

Location: Education City

Al Wakrah Dog Beach

Bored of parks? Take your pooch to the beach. Dogs are welcome at most public beaches in Qatar. Or you can also check out the Dog Beach at Al Wakrah, right in front of Al Wakrah Public Garden. Because the water is so shallow, it's the ideal place for your animal pals to run. Additionally, you might be able to see a sandbar, depending on the tides. It can be reached with a sedan, but be careful since the soft sand might cause you to become trapped.

Timings: Open 24 hours

Location: Al Wakrah

Kitty Café

Not a dog person? Stop over at the Kitty Café for a cat fix and spend time with cute furry felines over a cup of coffee. Newly opened at Lusail, the Kitty Café is home to 16 friendly resident cats that you can cuddle and play with, in a cozy ambience with comfy couches and plenty of cat toys. You can choose from a delightful menu of beverages, snacks and deserts to munch on while playing with the kitties. Make sure to book in advance by email (kittycafe.qa@gmail.com) though for a better experience.

Timings: 8 am – 9 pm (Sun-Thu), 2 pm – 9 pm (Fri), 11 am – 9 pm (Sat)

Location: Lusail
